How could she have a brother named Wood if her maiden name was Bage? |

There you go Margee - 'broken' families are not just a 21st Century phenomena. Also, I suspect Annie was a bigamist but that is another story. I already have a lot of on her and the families but I am looking into Clara. |

Peter, you say "(can't see her in 1901). In 1901 she is living with her brother Harry (Henry) Wood, his wife Jane, their daughter Elsie, and her mother Annie Langburn Wood. |

Sylvia, the mother's maiden name IS on English birth certificates before 1911 (I'm looking at some now!), it's just on the registration that it doesn't show! |

Tees Valley Indexes have two deaths for Clara Smith between 1901 - 1921: |

I think 1901 in opening post was a typo and should have been 1911: |

I think the 1915 death isn't right: |

If no obvious death is showing, possibly her husband died and she married someone else. |
