They were married 3 Dec 1876 Ryde ,Alfred was a mariner as was his father George, I found Emily, Alfred was not at home he was born c1863

Found this but Alfred is unmarried!

1901 at, probably, 18 Castle Street.

It is of course quite possible that Alfred was at sea on the ship on census night ...... and so would not have been counted.


It seems that ships in harbour filled out the census form, ships at sea did not ....... although that is not a hard and fast rule!

Is that her on the 81 census with a 12 year old son George H. Stanner? Could he be George Henry Vanner born before marriage? This birth record has no other surname attached:

In 1891, this Alfred is living alone, shown as Head ......... but he also says he is married
