Thanks Marie.

I still await the bundle of info and certificates from my dad - it seems he's a busy man! As soon as I have them I will know which further ones to buy ........

Night all, hopefully update you soon :-)

Of course you can give it a nudge!

Had a look at the 1901 for "Harry" and do think he's a contender.

Regarding the 1881 for Elizabeth, it's a possibility. Does the father's occupation on the census match that on the marriage certificate?

Also, who are the witnesses on the marriage certificate? It could be an idea to try and trace them in census to see if she turns up anywhere, as well as looking for her family in later census.

After she escaped from Augustus Henry, is there any chance she may have taken up with another man (even if not married to him)?

Pleae may I give this a little nudge???

Kimothy

Kimothy Report 21 Aug 2011 20:17

UPDATE:

Thanks to you regulars I think I may have found the whereabouts of at least one of my missing three!

'Harry' Bradbury found boarding with the Lowe family in Darwen, Lancs in 1901.
Aka Augustus Henry Bradbury, House painter or painter and decorator to you and I.

Still cannot find Elizabeth or William.
However, did find Elizabeth Talbert in Greenwich in 1881 (showing I think as Talbut in the actual record)

Any views on my new information please?

Thank you all, Kim :-)

I don't have any certificates yet, I am awaiting a bundle from my father before I buy any (no point in having duplicates!) but yes painter does make sense as it seems to be in the genes, I believe William was a painter and decorator at some point in his life also.

Re Elizabeth; I am thinking that she may have changed her name after fleeing (my father was told that Augustus was not the nicest of men)
I am making an assumtion that she came from the area where they married so my investigate further for possible surnames she may have chosen to use ............

So you're hooked - join the club!

I'm having trouble finding any of the family in any census, will have another rummage around for Elizabeth so keep checking back.

In the 1911, Augustus occupation is a house painter - does that tie in with what you know? Is that what's on William's marriage certificate(s).

Kimothy

Kimothy Report 21 Aug 2011 15:22

Olivia seems to be a family name ..........................

Great Marie, thanks
Ancestry is gonna be my next subscription, I now seem to be hooked on this!
Recent medical scare has prompted all sorts of stuff - my folks never gave much away and still don't but I want my kids to know where they came from, it's all so interesting I don't know why I didn't do it before .............................

Kim, the baptisms are on ancestry so you'd need a sub (if you don't have one). But we don't mind looking up for you (and yes, Marie's fine!)

Kimothy Report 21 Aug 2011 15:06

Kath, Yes that is my Grandfather William - thanks :-) My father was Hussars too!

Marie, thanks you also - Middle name I thought was Henry, however I know that Harry is a dirivitive and 'Ara' is a new one on me!

Please can you tell me where to look up Baptisms? It would save me pestering you all - your help is invaluable so thank you :-)

Hi Marie (is it okay to call you that?)
I don't know where Elizabeth was born, on their marriage details it says 1862 and names her father as Henry also.
I had Louisa (Possibly Lowe) from the 1861 census with Augustus and Henry.
I was unable to find a possible marriage until 1868 in Oxford and the a death of a Louisa Bradbury also in 1868. Henry Augustus married again in 1870 to a Charlotte Smith which all ties in with the 1871 census.
I wonder if I could trouble you Marie to find the baptisms of Augustus' siblings?
Alice c1862 and Joseph c1866. This would be quite useful info too,
Many thanks
Kim

Unfortunately, on William's baptism there's no address or occupation:

London, England, Births and Baptisms, 1813-1906

Name: William Bradberry
Record Type: Baptism
Estimated Birth Date: 10 May 188-
Baptism Date: 20 May 1888
Father's name: Augustus Ara Bradberry (Middle name looks more like Harry)
Mother's name: Elizabeth Bradberry
Parish or Poor Law Union: Paddington St Peter
Borough: Westminster

Names definitely Bradbury on original.
