what were Alice's parents names and when/ where was she born

I've seen the birth and death certificates of my Great Grandmother and Grandfather. They were in a tin at my grandmothers - who, bless her soul, is starting to go a bit upstairs and can't remember names or dates so well anymore, even important ones.

Alice was indeed my Gran's mum. I'm not sure why she told me she was called Lily. The birthdate she had told me before was my Great Grandfathers.

Now I'm just trying to find out about Alice's missing brothers and sisters, I can only find three, including her, of the 7 that were born. Sadly my gran really can't help me with this, Alice was disowned by her family.

Mystery solved! It wasn;t Lily at all, it was Alice Ann Lavender, who married Wilson Davis. Now to start over and look up Alice :)

I was told by my gran that my great grandmother (Lily) was born in 1894, she seemed quite sure. She also told me that Lily was Romani, going back through Alfred's family line you find them on Ruislip Common in the 1850s.

Joseph : Grace, Nellie and Katie that you have found are my Gran and my Great Aunts. I'm fairly sure I've heard her talk about Cyril before.

MarieCeleste: I've not seen that transcription of Comfort's name yet and I'm sure I have that image! I can't find anything about the child that had died.

I think there may be some mix up with the various Lily's (or even between Lily and one of her sisters).

Samantha - how do you know for definite that your Lily is the daughter of Alfred and Comfort, and not one of the others?

I'd strongly recommend getting a copy of your gran's birth certificate and taking it from there.

My grandmother is still alive (her maiden name is Davis), and says her mothers name was Lily Ann Lavender, (her middle names are Lily Lavender). I think Lily died in the 1960s or 70s.

Alfred and Comfort are the parents of the Lily I'm researching. (Comfort was mistranscribed as Corufert..)

From what you all have posted it does look like Lily originally married Arthur Ive. If we can find out what happened to him (i.e did he die) then we might get somewhere.

Do you actually have the 1924 birth cert to confirm the name of the mother ?
