Find Ancestors

I'm trying to track down the marriage record for Lily Ann Lavender, born 1894 in Middlesex. (Uxbridge or Ruislip). She married a Davis, but I can't find any record of it. She had a child in 1924 who was born in Ninfield (don't know if there were any before her). FreeBMD has given me one record of a Lily A Lavender marrying in 1914 , but that's to an Ive. I've also seen a record of another Lavender with her elder sisters name marrying a Davis. It's all very confusing!

If you cant find a marriage then its llikely there wasnt one! How do you know they married?

Do you actually have the 1924 birth cert to confirm the name of the mother ?

My grandmother is still alive (her maiden name is Davis), and says her mothers name was Lily Ann Lavender, (her middle names are Lily Lavender). I think Lily died in the 1960s or 70s.

Alfred and Comfort are the parents of the Lily I'm researching. (Comfort was mistranscribed as Corufert..)

From what you all have posted it does look like Lily originally married Arthur Ive. If we can find out what happened to him (i.e did he die) then we might get somewhere.

I think there may be some mix up with the various Lily's (or even between Lily and one of her sisters).

Samantha - how do you know for definite that your Lily is the daughter of Alfred and Comfort, and not one of the others?

I'd strongly recommend getting a copy of your gran's birth certificate and taking it from there.

I was told by my gran that my great grandmother (Lily) was born in 1894, she seemed quite sure. She also told me that Lily was Romani, going back through Alfred's family line you find them on Ruislip Common in the 1850s.

Joseph : Grace, Nellie and Katie that you have found are my Gran and my Great Aunts. I'm fairly sure I've heard her talk about Cyril before.

MarieCeleste: I've not seen that transcription of Comfort's name yet and I'm sure I have that image! I can't find anything about the child that had died.

Mystery solved! It wasn;t Lily at all, it was Alice Ann Lavender, who married Wilson Davis. Now to start over and look up Alice :)
