Hi,
I'm looking for information on William Bell born c1863. I know he was married to Maria Baul in Ripon Cathedral (7 April 1890). His job is given as 'hairdresser' which matches the 1901 census. His adress at time of marriage is given as Holbeck, Leeds. His father is also called William Bell, his occupation is 'moulder'.
By the 1901 census the family are living in Manchester, which is given as William's place of birth. the census claims that his children were born in Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester. I know that one of them was registered in Bradford.
I'm having particular trouble trying to find William on other censuses, anything that could shed any light on this would be appreciated

I've only found evidence of 4 children though, so anything on the other one would be good.
I know that 'Violet's real first name was Alice. I believe she was working as a servant on the 1911 census in Salford. Henrietta was boarding at a house in Manchester, and working as a machinist. :-)

The witnesses were James Baul and George 'Benson' (it looks like)

William snr in 1881 gives a birth place of Sheffield......... area in this census looks VERY good!!!

EDIT>>>>>The twins Henry and Edward were born in Ireland........ so we maybe won't find them on the 1871 census

Looking at baptisms I note that Alfreds is the first.. yet William was supposedly born first!!! So is his birthplace on the 1881 census wrong??

I have found William's baptism record, it's for the 27 Sep 1863, so it fits inbetween their marriage and Alfred's birth. It happened in Chorlton-upon-Medlock, which answers why he had Manchester as his place of birth on the censuses.
I think I've found William Snr on the 1861 census, living in Chorlton, as a boarder. He's born in Leeds and working as an iron moulder.
I'm having trouble before that though.
