Find Ancestors

Hello. I'm at a standstill with my Johnson family. My father is 70 next week and I'm trying to put together a family tree for him as far back as I can.
I am trying to trace the birth, parents and siblings of Henry Johnson b 1818 - 1821 Romford, Essex. I know he married Eliza Bailey in 1838 and then Sophia Bugbee in 1863 and he had 4 children from looking at the census and BMD records. I think I need to find someone who has access to parish records to see if they can help me trace this relative. Is there anyone out there who would be kind enough to help me?

How do you know it is the same Henry that married Eliza Bailey and then Sophia Bugbee ?

Brummiejan I haven't any certificates as I'm on a budget but I'll look at that site. Its so difficult with a Johnson - there are soooo many! Thanks

Glitter baby. If I recall correctly i discovered the marriage by chanceon Free BMD and then tied it up with census records.

Will I be able to get a copy of a marriage certificate from 1838? If so I think this may be the only way of knowing who his father is. The birth information looks good but on the IGI there is the same information with different spouses shown so I'm very uncertain.

Ann of Green Gables. I've traced Eliza Bailey back and her parents are John and Elizabeth. Eliza was born c 1821 and died between 1845 and 1851 but i've not yet found her death record. :-)

Ann. That is the record I saw and I think there must be another Henry Johnson born around the same time. My Henry had children named Emma, Henry,Edmund and Elizabeth (all with Eliza Bailey). Its just such a common name - why couldn't he be called Job or something less common?? :S
