I have looked in the usual places to try and find her in some censuses and BMDs. I would be very grateful if anyone could find her on the 1871 and 1881 census as I can't see her. This is what I have:

I have found what I think is her death

CONROY Ann Teresa 82 Walsall 6b 384

I found a marriage also in 1877 but can't find her under any name in census.

Finnie Andrew Pocklington 9d 119
PHILLIPSON Ann Teresa Pocklington 9d 119
ROBINSON George Peter Pocklington 9d 119

I think she married the Robinson as I can find a couple with the same as the other two on the marriage list names in the right area in 1881.

Many thanks

Chrisa

That's brilliant that certainly seems like them and the brides birthplace would make sense as that is in the area where I think her parents married.

Just got to try and find them in 1881 now maybe they were in Canada.

Thank you so much.

Hi,

Just to let anyone know who looks at this I have now realised that I am searching for two different people with the same name and both related.

The one that married in Canada I have found that family in all censuses.

I am still looking for Ann Teresa Phillipson (or Conroy) born 1828 in the 1861, 1871 and 1881 census and for a marriage for her. I still believe she is the one posted in the 1841, 1851, 1891 and 1901 censuses above.

Thank you.

I'm a bit confused. ;)

The Catherine Mary Robinson who married in BC in 1912 is the daughter of

Marriages Sep 1877
PHILLIPSON Ann Teresa Pocklington 9d 119
ROBINSON George Peter Pocklington 9d 119

Who are the two people with the same name?

Do you not think that the 1861 census that you posted

PHILLIPSON, Ann Jessica Head Unmarried F 33 1828
Assistant In Tobacco Shop
born in Boreham Essex

is your person?

The original image rules, rather than any site's transcription. Here is what Ancestry has:

Name: Ann Teressa Phillipson
Age: 33
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1828
Relation: Head
Gender: Female
Where born: Boreham, Essex, England
Civil parish: Chelsea

and the image does indeed say Teressa or Teresia. And it actually says (I think) "Sister to Head" -- Ancestry has hived her off from her household in its transcription; the Head is John Grove, aged 54. Which leaves me more confused. ;)

Births Sep 1880 ?
Robinson Catherine Mary Teesdale 10a 258

1891

Name: Catherine M Robinson
[Ann Terence Robinson]
Age: 10
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1881
Relation: Daughter
Father's name: Geo Peter Robinson
Mother's name: Ann Terence Robinson
Gender: Female
Where born: Lartington, Yorkshire, England

Civil parish: Lartington
Registration district: Teesdale
County/Island: Yorkshire

Geo Peter Robinson 56
Ann Terence Robinson 37
John Joseph Robinson 12
Catherine M Robinson 10
Bernard Jos Robinson 8
Wilfred Jos Robinson 7
Harry Jos Robinson 4
Christine M Robinson 2
Cuthbert Jos Robinson 1

In December the Ancestry user who corrected the name, obviously confused about the process, posted:

Ann Terence Robinson rather than Catherine M Robinson
Terence should read TERESA

Name: Ann Terence Robinson
[User-Submitted-Comment]
Age: 37
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1854
Relation: Wife
Spouse's Name: Geo Peter Robinson
Gender: Female
Where born: Market Weighton, Yorkshire, England

The comment is:

Ann Terence Robinson rather than Ann Terence Robinson
Terence should read Teresa as on the 1911 census

So ... this person is the mother of Catherine Mary Robinson who married in BC and is not the Ann Teresa Phillipson from Essex, who is a generation older.

Is this person a daughter of ATP from Essex then, is the idea?

Births Jun 1857 ??
Phillipson Ann Teresa Chelmsford 4a 150

JaneyCanuck Report 23 Apr 2011 10:02

Nope -- this is the Chelmsford one in 1861:

Name: Ann T Phillipson
Age: 3
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1858
Relation: Daughter
Father's name: James Robert Phillipson
Mother's name: Louisa Phillipson
Where born: Boreham, Essex, England
Civil parish: Boreham

And this is the Market Weighton one:

Name: Ann T Phillipson
Age: 7
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1854
Relation: Visitor
Gender: Female
Where born: Market Weighton, Yorkshire, England

Civil parish: Sancton and Houghton
Registration district: Pocklington
County/Island: Yorkshire

Ann Phillipson 39 - servant
Ann T Phillipson 7 - visitor
Abraham F Phillipson 4 - visitor
Henry J Phillipson 2 - visitor
(in a larger household)

Name: Ann Phillipson
Age: 39
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1822
Relation: Servant-
-- married
Where born: Margate, Kent, England

Argh!

The name Abraham certainly stands out, but is this or isn't it the ATP from Boreham??

She looks more like a sister-in-law maybe ...

Staffslass

Staffslass Report 23 Apr 2011 11:31

Janey,

This is where the confusion lies there is at least one Abraham per generation.

The Ann born 1828 in Boreham is the aunt of the one born in Market Weighton.

The one born in 1828 in Boreham, Essex is the one I still can't find on some censuses, on the 1901 she is with Abraham Phillipson in Walsall this Abraham is the brother of the other Ann.

In your last posting of a census the Phillipsons are the correct ones that Abraham mentioned is the one in Walsall in 1901 and is my Gt Gt Gt Grandad.

Not sure if this has made it more confusing or not.

Sorry I forgot to add that I do think it is her in 1861 but where I found it she is the only person living at that address so am just going to go and look at the original.

Hi,

I didn't want to start a new thread for just one question as the surname is the same.

I have found Mr James (1885) and Mrs Alice (1883) Phillipson leaving Southampton for Brisbane Australia in 1937 their last UK address was 88 Adderley Road could anyone find a record for them entering the UK. There address in Australia may have been Hoskins Street, Sandgate as this is their address in 1934.

Thank you very much.
