think i can help having worked through the head family. My Grandmother was Mary ann head.

I had the same problems with the Head familt. William Head is my ancestor too. He was actully born William Mattinson and the wife and children took the same name until the 1870's! Look at the census' from 1851 .1861 and 1871 Great puzzle as to why change of name but I wrote a letter to the Editor of WHo Do you think You Are Magazine and it featured as a full length article in August 2008. I have copies of marriage and death certs for william and Margaret if you contact me. Quite a sad story attached to this family Will also let you have copy of article. I'm an o'a'p' and would prefer to use Royal Mail if poss.Hope to make contact. Irene
