Hi there.. I've a mystery Brides.. wondered if there is any way to get a lead on who her parents were, aside from, perhaps, her Marriage cert..
She is Sonia M ( or N) Woonton married a Ralph G Tilton in Oct/Dec 1977. Registered in Bristol/Gloucestershire.
I've not found her in any Woonton Tree etc or found any birth record.
Thanks all.. Wayne

Perhaps she had been married before and Woonton was not her maiden name.

Thanks PricklyHolly.. tried a few variations around that theme is searches but no luck.
Cheers

If PricklyHolly is right you can spend a lot of time - years maybe, looking for her so the marriage cert is going to be the quickest option if you absolutely need to find her.

I took a look at Woonton on FreeBMD. You can see a few clusters of the name but the name doesn't seem to be indiginous to one particular area.

Hope you find her.

Yes Jill.. guess that will be the ultimate option.. hope it's better than the last one, a 1955 marriage where the groom was estranged from his parents & left their names off.. drat, foiled again !

If you Google Woonton by the time you get to about page five or six there are mention of businesses by that name and someone on Facebook too.

If you Google Woonton Genealogy and look through a few pages you also have some possible links including this one.

Jonesy, Jillian, I'm part of a fairly complete Woonton tree but this pair popped up on Ancestry with the usual copy of marriages reg. in that quarter and we simply, are not able to find a home for Sonia in what we think are fairly complete family groups in that timeframe... seems to be no children of the union either
The Luisa, from the web reference you provided Jillian, is not connected, she is a few Oceans away, in Fiji I think.
Thanks anyway. Wayne

On 192.com it says Sonia M Tilton.
on marriage record Sonia N Woonton.

Hmm. What a good mystery. Change of name, misspelling, change of identity?

I input Ralph Tilton into births on here and the only one to show up is the Ralph G Tilton born 1940 in Bristol.

But input into marriages and two show up so I think they are the same Ralph. I've tried to prove it by looking for the death of his possible first wife Janice. There are a lot of possibles. Or of course they could be divorced. If my theory is right and Sonia is a second wife, is it possible that she is from a totally unconnected branch eg from the group in Fiji? It would be possible that this was not her first marriage.

I'd love to know what you find out.

Theres no 'Sonia' marrying a 'Woonton' so it looks like she was not married previously

So, if there is no birth for her either under that name she could have born ouside Eng/Wales or even adopted

As said before your only option is the marriage certificate

Wayne, same as Ginny I did that search too. I also tried any variations I could think of like Wooton and Worton. I agree with her that she wasn't born England or Wales or might even have been adopted.

Go for the marriage cert and quickly too please because I'm desperate now to know the answer :)

There is a Ralph Tilton who is on the list of Patrons of Bristol Musical Comedy Club. No reason to think he is or isn't yours. Just found him when I Googled the name.

Hi all.. Well I can confirm, by dates, that Sonia, is not related to any of the Pacific Island descendants so Yes, I'll be going for the Marriage Cert & hoping its not a blowout like the last one was.
Thanks all for your considerations & I'll report back in due course
Regards

Hi all.. well, I got the marriage cert for my mystery Sonia ( age 25).. says that both she and her Ralph had been married previousely so her maiden name ? Well her dad signed the certificate, 4th Nov 1977, as John Francis Payne so I then look for an earlier Woonton / Payne marriage and find.. Nothing. So Sonia is still a mystery to Me & the Tree.. what next I ask.. ?

Hi All, Hi Ginny & thanks for your PM.s Apologies 4 delay in getting back.. been to airport seeing Son off on a trip to Asia.. Your PM establishes Sonia's antecedentants.. so now Caroljay.. that marriage in Sudbury in 1971 is interesting.. perhaps a spelling error in the '71 example as Sonia clearly spells out surname as Woonton in the '77 certificate however our tree has no marriage to either a Bray, Hartley or Payne
