Find Ancestors

Could a kind person out there please help me locate the marriage of Marie Armstrong to George Stevens Wright probably in Northumberland around the late 1890's early 1900's. Apologies for the marriage date being so vague. They had a child in 1902 so it's unlikely going to be after then. Unlikely but not impossible!

What was the name of the child, trying to locate them on the 1911 census, which states how long they were married?

His name was George Armstrong and he was born in the July of 1902

Don't know about Lynn but I can't see them 1911. Do you have an occupation for George?

His surname was Wright, the same as his father. So his full name at birth was George Armstrong Wright.

On George Armstrong's birth cert, his father is stated as being a builders foreman.

From what you have posted, this would suggest that George Armstrong was born before his mother, Marie Armstrong married George Stevens Wright!!

Any other children that you know of that were born before 1911?

It's looking as though he is not wanting to be found! Unless they moved before the 1911 census was taken!!

He is stated as being born in Whitby.

I'm not aware of any siblings born before or after his birth.

Lynne- George was born Wright, it's just as possible he was given mother's surname as a middle name. Having said that I can't find their marriage!

I know he existed, I'm living proof - a few generation further forward! I just can't find any record of his parents and feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall!

Have you got a copy of George Armstrong Wright's marriage certificate?

Does the father he names on that tally with what is shown on his birth certificate?

I'm having difficulty finding George Armstrong Wright in the 1911 census, so perhaps we need to start with his marriage and birth!

Yes, they do corresponde. On George A marriage cert he names his father as just George, who is deceased in 1923

An odd one indeed. I cannot spot the birth of a George Stevens (or Stephens) Wright or indeed of a Marie Armstrong within what might be considered the probable time period for having a child of their own in 1902.

The nearest that I have come up with is the birth of an Edith Marie Armstrong born in Middlesborough (Not a million miles from Whitley) in 1878. I cannot however spot a marriage for her.

I've looked at both George Stevens Wright as written on George Armstrong's birth cert and George Stephens Wright and can come up with nothing. I did however find a death for a George STEPHENSON Wright but now I can't find it again!

Wondering if the registrar of his day has alot to answer for!

This could be a red herring, so perhaps disguard it for now - put it on the back burner!!!!

Is it possible that Marie Armstrong had been married before, therefore her surname would be different!

Just off to see if I can see a marriage for George Wright and Marie!!
