Morning, Hannah Horsley is the sister of my great great grandmother Mary Race (she died in Auckland early part of 1860s (I think). Her daughter (my great grandmother ended up in West Hartlepool by 1881 - she was in Auckland on the 1871 census and I'm up to date with her from them. I'm spreading out now and its really irritating me that I can't find this branch. I do appreciate all your help but if you think there are others who need help more (being as this is a side shoot) then just stick my request on the back burner.
Regards.

Morning, my great great grandmother Mary Race is the sister of Hannah. Her daughter Annie is my great grandmother and she ended up in West Hartlepool by 1881 and I am up to date with her. I am now branching out sidewards and it is irritating me that I cannot find this family.

I can't get any further on the census. But have googled John Horsley and found the following:

He was parish clerk Crakewell 1843, 44 & 50, parish records may reveal more about him. His is listed in the 1840 Whites directory farmer from Crakewell.

Also the 1857 Post Office trades directory lists Matthew & John Horsley farmers at Scrayingham, Buckrose (10miles NE of York), but don't know if this is the same John - probably not as his wife is Ann on the 1861 census.

There is also a farmer John Horsley (80) with wife Mary (50) on the 1861 census at Hutton Ambro, Malton - he died 2/2/1862, could this be his father with 2nd wife?

He had quite a large farm (for the era), but unfortunately the address or name of farm is not given on the 1851 census to try an address search in 1861.

Not sure what else to suggest, apart from emigration or a move to Scotland.

I think a trip to the North Yorkshire records office is called for and a trawl through all the records. thanks again.
