There are these births to the same couple - first ones look like twins - does that ring any bells?

I think the birth that rootgatherer has found is the most likely. People often switch around their first names, and this would be registered at the right time to match with the date of birth given on the death record.

wow fast reply!

I showed my mother this record she said his birthday was 100% in June so this cannot be him.

Thanks for your help.

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 9 Oct 2010 11:48

Michelle - could be him as a June birth may not have been registered until the next quarter. The only way to find out would be to buy the certificate to get the exact date of birth.

Do you have your grandfather's marriage certificate to check who his father was please?
Who did he marry please?

Michelle

Michelle Report 9 Oct 2010 12:01

Yes you are so right his birth could of been registered in July, my mother swears her older brother insists he was born in swansea and his father was from peckham in London. We do not no if my grandfathers parents were married before he was born this is why i am finding it hard to buy a birth record i do not know which record to order. My mothers sister says when she was a very small child she remembers my grandfather taking her to London to meet his father.

Yes my grandfather married Olwen James in 1940 in cardiff. My nan is still alive she is 90 yrs old and has dementia and she had 9 children with Jo my grandfather.

Sorry i meant Olwen Davies later on my nan divorced Jo and married Charlie James hence why i wrote James instead of Davies

Sorry i meant Olwen Davies my nan remarried later on and became James. My grandfather remarried aswell but i do not know who he married.

From Ancestry

Name: Olwen Davies
Spouse Surname: John
Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1940
Registration district: Cardiff
Registration county (inferred): Glamorgan
Volume Number: 11a
Page Number: ??34

From Freebmd - Joseph's entry to get the correct page number

Marriages Jun 1940 (94%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

John Joseph W Davies Cardiff 11a 834

The marriage certificate will give Joseph's father's name and occupation.

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 9 Oct 2010 12:26

There are a few possibles for Joseph's re-marriage depending upon the area.

Michelle

Michelle Report 9 Oct 2010 12:29

Thank you very much for all your hard work i will have to get this record i pray his fathers name and occupation details are recorded. Since i have family in Wales can they go somewhere in Cardiff and buy this record over the counter?

Do you mean i need to look in the Freebmd to get a better record which includes the full page number?

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 9 Oct 2010 12:32

Sorry for the confusion Michelle - Olwen's entry was blurred on Ancestry.co.uk so I looked on FreeBMD for joseph's entry. So this is the info you need to order the certificate
