I was just taking a quick look at all things Garthorpe. Garthorpe was a boundary village just in Lincolnshire, many people born in Garthorpe would be reg. in Goole or Swinefleet both are much closer than Scunthorpe or Gainsbrough.

Yes this is the correct Family he was known as William not John this is why they were mistranscribed.

It is his parents I am unsure on and not sure where to go with it.
