Find Ancestors

Hello Im stuck again.
I am trying to find a Bartholemew Banks b Ireland c 1833.
I have him on 1871 census living in County End, Saddleworth. England.It shows him to be 38 and living with wife Catherine,and daughters Mary and Winifred. He was born in Ireland and I can find no trace of him before 1871 in England. Can anyone help by checking Irish records for me please before 1871. Am very grateful for any help. Thanks

no I havent ..

I presumed it would be in Ireland but perhaps not . I will have a look.

So in 1881 they are here - New Road, Saddleworth?

And in 1891 he is widowed and here - 2, Greenwood Street, Saddleworth, Springhead, Mossley?

I cant find him in 1881 but that is him widowed in 1891 yes !!

I couldn't find him in 1871 :-)

oops that is the 1881 census lol not 1871 . I am rubbish at this !

Unfortunately civil registration started later in Ireland than it did in England, that is 1865.

I cannot find a marriage for him in free BMD and do not have access to ancestry site - maybe someone could search there for their marriage.

Synopsis
Compulsory civil registration of non-Roman Catholic marriages began on April 1st, 1845. The registration of births, deaths and all marriages commenced on January 1st, 1864. The General Register Office (GRO), holds copies of all civil records for the whole of Ireland, from the commencement of registration, up to and including the year 1921.

His marriage - unfortunately Catherine is missing from the list - if you order the cert you'll get her name.

so is there no way of finding out about him when he was in Ireland. Should I buy the birth certificate to see if that gives me any more ?

When in doubt, put the person's name in google and see what comes up - I tried Bartholomew Banks born Ireland and this appeared:

I am trying to trace my husband's great great grandfather. We think he was born in Claremorris in 1843 . His father was called James Banks. At some stage the family went to live in England and BB married a Catherine Langan.One of his grand daughters was born in claremorris(Ellen Burns)the rest of the 10 children where born in Oldham.I am so excited to have got this far I do hope someone can help.
