I have just received my Grandfather's birth cert. to find out who his Mother was as I only had Clara. It says formerly Hoar, that is what it looks very much like. I can only find her in the 1901 census with Husband and Children. She was according to that born in 1869 in Aston Birmingham, where she met and married her Husband before moving to Surrey in 1898 approx. I can find trees and records for Albert her husband, but absolutely nothing for her, no census, birth or marriage, only a death record but that is under Clara Lanchester in 1951. Now I don't know where to go from here, maybe missed something. Any ideas please |

Thank you, I will try that. On the certificate there is no E, but maybe they weren't asked to spell it. |

Yes, she married Albert Lanchester in Dec 1887 in Aston. My Grandfather was Bertie Lanchester. |

Hi Susan, I was just about to ask that. It certainly appears to be. I have the children listed. It was when I first looked up my Grandfather I started with the 1901 census which had her as born in Aston. Confused and still haven't found anything as yet. |

The 1911 Census states 12 children were born, 9 still living and 3 had died. |

In the 1901 census, there were 6 children, 5 Albert, William, Charlie, Gertie, and Bertie are in the 1911, Emily who would have been 13 doesn't appear and they would have been in Croydon. It definately appears to be right, so confused about where she was born. |

Emily in the 1911 is Epps not Lanchester. So, was Clara married before to a Mr Epps? |

On all census returns until 1911 Clara was born in Warwickshire. |
