Find Ancestors

Does anyone know how I can link my Patch ancestors from Somerset, England, to their relatives in America and Canada who eventually became the Russell family? Many thanks. Rowena

Not quite sure exactly what you mean by connecting the relatives.

If they are relatives either by birth or by marriage then the normal convention of parent, child, siblings in your family tree program either on GR or Ancestry or on your computer should automatically link them.

What I mean is that there is a Russell family living in the States whose ancestors at one point went over to Canada and then America from England where they were once members of the Patch family. I have no idea which generation of the Patch family moved across the Atlantic and have no specific names either. I appreciate that it will be by birth or marriage. How do I find this automatically as you suggest?

I assumed that the Patch family members who had left Somerset to go to Canada and America were already all in your family tree. Obviously that is not the case as you state that you do not know who they were.

I can only suggest therefore that you try to discover who they actually were.

If you do not know who they were how do you know that they were Patches in Somerset before becoming Russells in either Canada or the USA?

From my late Grandmother whose own mother was a Patch. She could not tell me more unfortunately. I am hoping there are other Patch ancestors out there who might know.

If you start with what you know it may be possible to trace back to prove or disprove a connection to the Russell family in the USA

Firstly post your grandmothers name and approx birth, you know her mothers maiden name was Patch so hopefully this should get us back to 1911 or 1901.

2. If you know your grandmothers fathers name post that too and this will give a good starting point and then let's see were we can go from here

My Grandmother's name was Kate Strode and she was born in North Down, Haselbury, Somerset in 1909. Her mother's name was Mary Anne Patch and she was born in Haselbury Plucknett in 1871. The Russell family I am interested in is that of Roy William Russell who was born in North Dakota in 1890. His wife's name was Geraldine (nee Jacobi) and she was also born in North Dakota in 1891. Her mother's name was Amelia Hyatt and she was born in Canada in 1875. Amelia was a popular Patch name then.

I don't see how this Amelia Hyatt has anything to do with your Patch family.
