There are a few possibilities, but none with Clara born in Chorlton - that I can see anyway.

If you don't have her marriage certificate, you really do need to buy it. As Christine says, it will give her father's name and occupation, plus confirmation of her age. Then you can go backwards on the hunt for James................

Is this is them 1911?? - birthplace checks out as Manchester: Year of marriage 1909. Maybe just happen to be somewhere else on census day??

What is her age on the marriage cert and does that tie in with age given on the 1911 as I can't find her on the 1911. Also where does she give as birthplace?

I can't view the transcript to check birthplace but still can't find her in earlier years.

The 1911 Address is the right one. I think Clara was born in Newton Heath Manchester Sue.

A very long shot, but it begs the question -

Sarah is a 'widow' - (query for James appearing on marriage cert), but Newton Heath is here......... Clara's date of birth fits in with Jan's and Chris's find too

ps. a bit late, but I agree with you Christine (lol)

according to 1911 census she was living in Holloway had been married for 6 years and was born Surry Brixton, husband retired and Clara was a dressmaker

That's what I was thinking Sheila meant originally but the Sarah we found was born in Staffordshire not Surrey and she was a widow in previous years.
