Christie, on the 1911 census, son Aaron Rayner is shown as aged 17 and born in Mile End New Town.

In 1901 they are living in Mile End New Town, and son Aaron is shown as aged 6 and born in Spitalfields.

If you search at FreeBMD

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

for a birth of Aaron Rayner, 1893-1896 (for good measure), this is the only possible candidate:

Births Jun 1894
Rayner Aaron Whitechapel 1c 300

-- he would have been 6 nearly 7 in 1901.

The birth certificate will give his mother's name. You should order it here and only here (private firms that provide the service are ripoffs):

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

For info, household in 1891 in Mile End New Town:

Solomon Rayner 40
Leah Rayner 38
Joshua Rayner 10
Abraham Rayner 9
Clara Rayner 4
Philip Rayner 2
Rachel Rayner 3/12

Likely first son's birth:

Births Jun 1880
RAYNER Joseph Whitechapel 1c 328

Here they are in Christ Church, Whitechapel, in 1881:

Solomon Rayner 32 - born Amsterdam
Leah R. Rayner 29 - born Amsterdam
Joseph Rayner (11 months) - born Spitalfields

And that name suggestion from carriann was absolutely spot on.

Searched for a marriage of Solomon R* to Leah.

Marriages Jun 1875
> BUSNACK Leah London C. 1c 158
DE JONGH Solomon London City 1c 158
> Reyna Solomon London City 1c 158

Any idea how i get info on dutch records

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 22 Nov 2009 18:29

For starters, you need the Reyna-Busnach marriage certificate. It should name their fathers. (Dea's 1971 census helps with that of course.)

You gotta make the most of Google, Christie.

I just googled

busnach genealogy

(I'm sure Busnach would be the correct spelling) and the first thing up was this:

http://www.busnach.nl/

"Many years ago my brother started looking in telephone directories all over the world to find Busnach's.
He was travelling a lot and he was very curious about the origin of the Busnach tribe.
Meanwhile my father started searching in the archives of Amsterdam and the Jewish Portuguese graveyard in Ouderkerk (the Netherlands). He only did research on the direct line of his father, grandfather etc. back to the year 1700
After my brother died I took over and did spend many hours in the Amsterdam archive and Internet.
I found Busnach's all over the world and lots of information came to me.
This resulted in a family tree with more than 650 Busnach's, Boesnach's, Boesenach, Busnac's and there spouses."

That sounds like somebody worth contacting. There is a link to click there (the name at the bottom) for sending email. That person also has this site:
http://home.wanadoo.nl/wouter.busnach/index.htm
His site is referred to at several genealogy sites.

Some Jewish genealogy resources are listed here:

http://www.dinur.org/resources/resourceCategoryDisplay.aspx?categoryid=485&rsid=0

And in particular, the Netherlands Society for Jewish Genealogy:

http://www.nljewgen.org/eng/index.html

(Most of the site pages are in Dutch of course, unfortunately.)

I think I'd start by contacting the Amsterdam Busnach above, who should be able to help a great deal on that side, and with where to look for more.

Also, go to FreeBMD and do a search for all events for suname BUSNAC* and no other search terms (no dates, no given names, etc.). There are not a lot.

You'll see a Rachel born 1862 who would seem to be your Leah's sister, from the 1871 census. That birth certificate should give you the surname of Leah's mother Clara. (The 1871 census does say Rachel was born in Amsterdam, but as a ditto, and there is no other Rachel in 1871 for that 1862 birth.)

The Michael who married in 1872 is probably Leah's brother from the 1871 census.

Doing the same for surname Reyna, the first event is the marriage of Solomon and Leah in 1875. The last event is 1886 -- since the family seems to have changed the spelling to Rayner after that.

There is one marriage in 1945 showing at FreeBMD, but since the first name is Jesús, I suspect that is the Spanish surname Reyna. ;)
