Hm, thanks Sharon for looking. Might have to leave this one for now!

Moving back to the DAVIES side...Would the 1851 census shed any light on Edwin's father's occupation or wasn't it shown then? (he was John DAVIES b. c1813 Stockton Salop, with wife Mary Ann b.c1823 and possibly newborn daughter Margaret). And is he around in 1871 (trying to work out if he died in 1869 or 1880 Shifnal as both fit agewise)?

Thanks again for all your help and patience on all this! :-)

Thanks Sharon, I agree, it is all too weird.

Can you see them in 1891 by any chance? (please? I know I'm pushing my luck on this one!)

SharoninGreece Report 23 Oct 2009 13:29

And the mystery continues, Daniels birthplace is the same on all censuses.

Wm J has the same birth place also, Eccleshall.

Can't see Daniel aged 5 living elsewhere.

Cherilyn Report 23 Oct 2009 10:28

Can anyone help with this please? Still trying to work out if it is the same Daniel PINFOLD snr here in 1881:
Daniel PINFOLD
Head M Male 53 Middleton Cheney, Northampton, England Flour Mill Manager
as in Eccleshall, Stone, Staffs in 1861 and 1871. He definitely did have a son born there...

The birthplaces of the two boys as per my previous post above would help out a lot...!

(Had a thought - does Daniel PINFOLD/PENFOLD jnr b. Birmingham appear somewhere else in 1861, aged 5?)

Cherilyn

Have to go out now, may not get back on til later (or possibly tomorrow)

Thanks for all your help and time so far!!

Cherilyn Report 21 Oct 2009 09:04

What is the birthplace for the Daniel PENFOLD in 1871 aged 15? Does it match the 1881 one (ie Birmingham, Warwick)?

And what about Wm J aged 3 in 1861, and aged 23 with brother Daniel in 1881 - was he born in Eccleshall???

SharoninGreece

SharoninGreece Report 21 Oct 2009 09:00

Yes, I realised that about Samuel Henry, am confused about Daniel & the other Samuel though.

Samuel Hy b. 1879 was a son of Daniel and his 2nd wife Emma (m. 1877). He went to NZ where he married and died. He was a brother of Alfred Edward/George (1884) and Mary Frances (1884) both born Rugby.

These sibs births are confirmed by dates in the family Bible (my friend's family - Alfred was her grandfather. I have another thread looking for his marriage, which the lovely Richard found for me!)

This is them in 1881
Household:
Name Relation Marital Status Gender Age Birthplace Occupation Disability
Daniel PINFOLD
Head M Male 53 Middleton Cheney, Northampton, England Flour Mill Manager
Emma PINFOLD
Wife M Female 45 Tamfield, Stafford, England
Samuel H. PINFOLD
Son Male 1 Eccleshall, Stafford, England
John W. SWIFT
Stepson Male 13 Beach, Stafford, England

Doe seem a huge coincidence that the other Samuel PINFOLD is also a farmer and miller in Eccleshall!

Daniel's 2nd wife Emma was 1st married to William Walker SWIFT (1842-1870) in 1865 in Stone (which is where he died). So the place names all fit...very confusing!

Goodness, 3 servants! Does it say what his occupation was? I am assuming this was a house and not a farm then?
