Find Ancestors

Hi, hoping some kind soul can please help with these.

Looking for Edwin DAVIES b. c1854 at Stockton, Shropshire/Salop. Mother Mary A b. c1824 Bridgnorth, Salop. Don't know his father's name. Hoping the earlier census will help.

In 1881 Edwin and his mother are living at Cheswardine Lane Gatehouse in Stockton, where Mary is a gatekeeper. He married Sarah MORRIS in 1882 in Shifnal.

Also for same years, Daniel PINFOLD (b. c1828 Northampton) and wife Hannah - did they have any children? May be in Newport area, Shropshire (where they married in 1852). Can't find Hannah's death but Daniel remarried in 1877 in Staffordshire to Emma SWIFT (nee PLANT) (I have her details, thanks! ;-)

Goodness, 3 servants! Does it say what his occupation was? I am assuming this was a house and not a farm then?

Daniel Pinfold was a famer & miller, clara was the domestic help. So was a farm.

Starting to think we are dealing with two different families

Samuel Hy b. 1879 was a son of Daniel and his 2nd wife Emma (m. 1877). He went to NZ where he married and died. He was a brother of Alfred Edward/George (1884) and Mary Frances (1884) both born Rugby.

These sibs births are confirmed by dates in the family Bible (my friend's family - Alfred was her grandfather. I have another thread looking for his marriage, which the lovely Richard found for me!)

Doe seem a huge coincidence that the other Samuel PINFOLD is also a farmer and miller in Eccleshall!

Daniel's 2nd wife Emma was 1st married to William Walker SWIFT (1842-1870) in 1865 in Stone (which is where he died). So the place names all fit...very confusing!

Yes, I realised that about Samuel Henry, am confused about Daniel & the other Samuel though.

What is the birthplace for the Daniel PENFOLD in 1871 aged 15? Does it match the 1881 one (ie Birmingham, Warwick)?

And what about Wm J aged 3 in 1861, and aged 23 with brother Daniel in 1881 - was he born in Eccleshall???

The birthplaces of the two boys as per my previous post above would help out a lot...!

(Had a thought - does Daniel PINFOLD/PENFOLD jnr b. Birmingham appear somewhere else in 1861, aged 5?)

And the mystery continues, Daniels birthplace is the same on all censuses.


Wm J has the same birth place also, Eccleshall.

Can't see Daniel aged 5 living elsewhere.
