Hi

I have just discovered the existence of Amy Willomatt Hunt who according to the London Births & Baptisms Parish records was baptised on 25 Feb 1866 in West Hackney, Middlesex. According to the record, her parents were Thomas Willomatt Hunt and Eliza Hunt.

My problem is that I have 2 Thomas Hunt's - senior born abt 1806 in Stepney, Middlesex and son born abt 1827 in Datchett, Bucks and Amy could belong to either. They were both married more than once. Senior was married to Eliza Bennett and then appears to have remarried in 1871 to Martha (stating he was a widower on the certificate)n 1871, shortly before his death in 1872.

Thomas Willomatt Hunt Junior had a daughter called Martha which is confirmed in his brother George Willomatt Hunt's Will but I don't know the name of his wife.

Which one does Amy belong to?

Any help via a census search would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Hilary

Thanks for your replies. Thomas Hunt senior was a cheesemonger but so was Thomas Hunt junior for a while although junior was a publican in Westminster when he died in Sept 1891 so the birth certificate will not help as the two names are the same.

I've tried to locate a census to verify who Amy lives with but am having trouble locating.

Thanks
Hilary

Thank you everyone for your help so far.

Vicci...... oh nooooo, not another Thomas Willomatt Hunt! Am wondering whether Amy and Thomas Willomatt Hunt Junior x 2 are the estranged children of Thomas Willomatt Hunt junior born 1827. He definately had a daughter called Martha too as she appears on his death certificate as the infomant and also in her Uncle George's Will as "Martha, my brother Thomas' daughter". The 1871 census is so confusing as it appears that there is another young Martha belonging to Thomas Hunt senior.

What a pickle!

Thanks again
Hilary

Vicci - Thanks for supplying the 1871 marriage I mentioned earlier, for Thomas Hunt senior.

It appears that he probably lived with Martha Harvey for a long while and their daughter was born in 1861. He died in 1872, a year after the marriage so possibly knew that he was dying then, hence marrying Martha.

Thomas senior was previously married to Eliza Bennetts and I don't know when she died. I have a couple of possible dates for Amy's birth so guess that I need to purchase the birth certificates to establish which Eliza her mother actually was to narrow down whether her father was Thomas senior or Thomas junior.

A very grateful thanks for all your help.
Time for bed!

Best wishes
Hilary

Sorry, I was replying to your previous posting and didn't pick up your latest until now.

I don't know Thomas Willomatt Hunt junior's date of birth but it appears to be around 1827, according to 1851 census - shows family living at 142 Whitechapel Rd, Whitechapel, Tower Hamlets.

Thomas head of household aged 45 and a cheesemonger,
Eliza Hunt his wife aged 45 of Datchett, Bucks,
Thomas Hunt aged 24, born Datchett
George Hunt aged 22, born Windsor
and the following unrelated - Stephen Hermitag aged 21 (shopman), Robert Bicker aged 19 (porter), Richard Tappender aged 24 (Barman) and Mary Stelland aged 29, (House servant) who was born in Cork, Ireland

The death certificate I hold for Thomas junior states he died aged 65 in Sept 1891 in Westminster. George his brother died March 1889 aged 61 years according to his death certificate.

Will pick up any further queries tomorrow as I wont be able to get up for work ........(!)

Nite
