I am trying to find details of a Rev. John Payne (Circa. 1817) who was the father of my great-grandmother Emma Payne (1843 - 1892.) I believe most of his family, including himself and his wife died in a shipwreck off the cost of Isle of Wight in a ship called the Adelaide Star. I believe Emma and her sister Lydia were the only survivers of the family. |

Yes, have tried googling the vessel and looking at the times online archive for any newspaper reports of it. I am not 100% sure that this is the name of the ship now as think it would come up in a search. |

I wondered why if John was a Vicar there doesn't appear to be baptism records for trhe children. Information from the OP suggests that it is another member of the family who said that john was in the church but other than that there is no concrete evidence. A birth certificate of one of the children would be the obvious answer to this question. |
