Hilary Report 21 May 2009 20:31

Hi

I have just discovered that I have been given some wrong information on 3 x great grandfather James Trembath which has all but destroyed the rest of my tree.

James Trembath a Miner from Penzance (St Just) is shown as the father of Amelia Trembath on her marriage certificate in 1854. Born in either 1805/ 06, hHis wife's name is shown as Jane of the same age in 1841, 1851 and 1861 census before he dies in 1862. It appears that this Jane could either be Jane Thomas or even Jane Berriman but I can;t find any further information on Jane.

I was led to believe that James Trembath's father was another James born in Morvah 1770 and his mother was Mary Nankervis born 1770 in St Just in Penwith, Cornwall. However, it appears that this information may now be wrong and his father could be Ambrose Trembath born 1767 in St Just (his parents were Ambrose Trembath and possibly Jane Nankervis who married on 12 May 1768 in Cornwall) and his mother was Elizabeth Nickells born 1766.

Please could someone do a look up to establish who is the correct father or point me in the right direction. I am new to genealogy and have now spent days trying to establish this fact .

Thanks for any help that you can give me
Hilary

These are the marriages for James Trembath. His first child, Jane, was born around 1830 according to the 1841. Jane was also from St Just so I would imagine they married there. Of course, none of this is for certain.

Hilary Report 21 May 2009 20:55

Hi

Amelia Trembath was shown as aged 20 when she married in 1859 but I believe this was a few days before she was 21 so that would put her date of birth around Dec 1838 (I think that her christening 2 years later which is shown above is correct ).

The information given by Ann on Mary Nankervis is also correct ( i have have information on that line right back to 1068) BUT James Trembath senior and Mary Nankervis are not the parents of the James born 1805/6 that I am looking for.

Minnie ...... I thoink that my Ambrose could have been born in 1767 so number 3 might be the right one. Do you have any further information on him?

Thank you all for trying to help, I am really stumped and gutted to have spent so long building my tree to have to scrap most of it. I still don't know who Jane Nankervis is either!

Thank you Alviegal

The census information that you have copied is definately the correct family as I already have it. It appears from the marriages that you have provided that Jane Berriman could be excluded as being the mother of Amelia on the basis that she married her James after my 2x great grandmother Amelia was born in 1838. Amelia's mother Jane continued to be shown on the census between 1841 to 1871/81. but this could now be either Jane. I guess that Jane Thomas could have died before 1842?

Thanks for trying to help
Hilary x

The marriages in 1827 and 1829 appear to be a bit strange. First born Jane Trembath was born on 10 May 1829 and the last child was Thomasine born in 1850 so this could well suggest different mothers called Jane .............. aaaaaargh!

Hilary

Hilary Report 21 May 2009 21:26

Anne, thank you so much for trying to help.

My previous research took me across the path of Henry Nankervis and Margaret Cock and if there is a connection here, I am hoping that I can now salvage a good deal of my previous tree records. However, I can't see from the information provided how Henry and Margaret tie in now. Their daughter Jane died in June 1718 according to your post below. Am I missing something please? I have all my fingers and toes crossed!

Thank you

Thank you Alviegal

I hadn't noticed Thomasine's middle name before which is interesting . My Amelia's middle name (born in 1838) was Woolcock ........... not sure how that one fits in

Fingers still crossed that Anne of green gables can provide more information of the suggested link between Henry Nankervis and Margaret Cock with a phantom Jane Nankervis .........!
