Well we have witness Malcolm D Grieve.

1901

Name: Malcolm Douglas Grieve
Age: 2
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1899
Relationship: Son
> Father's Name: James
> Mother's Name: Josie Henderson (Jessie, of course)
Where born: Skinburness, Orkney

Name: James Grieve
Age: 35
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1866
Relationship: Head
Spouse's name : Josie Henderson
Where born: Montrose, Forfarshire
> Occupation: Minister Of Ronaldsay Parish

Civil parish: North Ronaldshay
County: Orkney
Address: Parish Mause (Manse)

James Grieve 35
Josie Henderson Grieve 24
Malcolm Douglas Grieve 2
Sarah Tulloch 24 - servant

So there's an Orkney thing.

No Harold in the household. There were 3 Harold Grieve-s born in 1901 at SP. None in the decade before, and 1 in the decade after. I suspect this was why Ishbel understated her age on the passenger records. (She was actually born 1899ish per the 1901 census?)

Oops, missed this:

Name: Josie Henderson Grieve
Age: 24
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1877
Relationship: Wife
Spouse's name : James
> Where born: Scotia, Nova

Canada!

Whole new vistas. Hopefully, that was unique to the Grieve family.

(I've fixed the name that should've been Harold, Viv, ta, so as not to confuse, so you can delete if you iike.)

FannyByGaslight Report 30 Jun 2009 23:03

Shouldnt the james be harold?
What do you mean ,no James in household?

And yes,,Ishbel was born 1899.

I have searched the army index,s on Find my past for this girl from 1911 being born in India ,but I have not found her.

HOUSEHOLD MCLEOD DEIDRE F 1905 6 Brentford Middlesex

Nor have I found her brother Duncan being born in Ireland.

HOUSEHOLD MCLEOD DUNCAN M 1907 4 Brentford Middlesex

I would suggest that you ring or write to

Office of the registrar genral
goverment offices,convent road,roscommon,co roscommon,eire.
{090}663 2900

And ask them if they would do a search of their registers for Duncan mcleod/macleod,with fathers name Robert.
Well it would rule them out or in that way.
And they only deal in euro!

But they are normally very helpful.

And if you have no luck in Eire we will try the north of Ireland.

Viv, Evelyn's on holiday at the mo. I think she will be in touch if she can get internet connection - she's a regular on Sue's help us to help you thread. It would be lovely if someone could actually find her mum for her wouldn't it?

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 9 Jul 2009 19:45

Hi Cynthia

That woman spends more time in France than at home!!
Its alright for some.

I am doing my best,I started out with her on pretty much day one ,so I guess I will have to stick with it.

Ruddy people losing their mothers.I ask you?

I think I may have to take a holiday in the channel Islands and check up on all the work that shes not doing on it while on holiday ,soon!!

And I have never had replies from the people with Ishbel on their trees at Ancestry which makes me cross.
How hard is it to type a few words?

Maybe a holiday in Scotland instead of France??

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 9 Jul 2009 19:56

Well, maybe the people on Ancestry are on holiday in France too!!!

I don't think Evelyn's mother was born under a gooseberry bush, I think she was brought by a stork but fell out somewhere along the way!!!

Just wait till she gets back........all she does on holiday is eat anyway.

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 9 Jul 2009 20:12

At least when shes on holiday it gives us a rest from the hunt for the needle in a haystack for a while.

A couple of bottles of good french wine, or cognac even, wouldnt go amiss here in dark and wild west wales sometimes,help me to forget the flaming macleods for a while!!

Ahh well,cheap home made apple and pear will have to do.

Hello Everyone,
Yes the pest is back, Wifi on the campsite was damaged in thunder and lightening, so I have been out of touch for a while, I will have a good read through and come back later.
Thank you all

Hello pest.

I got a new computer today,yippee.
This is my first try on it since the computer person finished and boy,,its different.
Lets hope this one doesnt keep turning itself off, sometimes that can be a godsend while on this thread,whoops, I meant a nuisance.

Waves to Cynthia.

Evelyn Report 10 Jul 2009 21:16

Good luck with the new computer Viv.,I hope I will soon get used to mine, its difficult when you cant get on the internet though. Bad thunder storms have cancelled out the wifi in this area until this evening,judging by my headache I think the thunder may be on the way back, so Viv you may be lucky and find that I am absent again soon,I hope not as I like to be in touch. At the moment I am not sure I even had a mother!!!!
Evelyn .

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 10 Jul 2009 21:24

Oh you had a mother alright Evelyn, you just don't know where you've put her!!

~~~~waves to Viv.
FannyByGaslight
FannyByGaslight Report 10 Jul 2009 21:33
I know where I would like to put evelyns mother,but I cant tell you on here or I may get reported.
I have even asked her to visit me in my dreams and give me a clue,she wont even show up there the ***bleep bleep ** woman.
Going to look for John Davies born in cardiganshire 1848 to John and Ann davies {farmers }AGAIN ,might have more luck this time.
It surley must be easier than Macleods anyway.
Evelyn
Evelyn Report 10 Jul 2009 21:34
Cynthia,
I know where I put her I just dont know where I found her, she was only 4ft 10 inches tall but has sure caused me a lot of problems., maybe something will crop up one day.
Really I still feel that Viv found the right family with Kate and Donald, they had Ishbel and Donald as children among many others but we never seemed to be able to trace any of them except Ishbel and she had no issue.
Bye for now
Evelyn
