Find Ancestors

this is a bit of a long shot - been asked by a neighbour to try and find some information about his dad's family unforthuantly he hasn't given me much to go on.

his father was James John Davies he was born in penrhyncoch (garf) not sure about the year.
he died in 1957 in glossop terrace hospital - he was living at 55 west street pontypridd.

any information is much appreciated.

in 1957 Glossop Terrace was Cardiff Royal Infirmary - with a name like Davies in Wales I wish you luck cariad!!!!

can you find out where his death was registered in 1957 as there is no cardiff reg for that year
but there 2 jj davies in that year
and his death certificate will give you his age to help find his birth
and is it penrhyncoch aberystwyth or another one?

if he was living in Pontypridd, which is about seven miles north of Cardiff, Aberystwyth would not have featured, though I must say I have never heard of Penrhyncoch around Pontypridd but there could well be one.

sorry what i meant about penrhyncoch aberystwyth was.
was he born there??
its the only penrhyncoch i know of and the only one i can find on the map.
if he was, then after getting his age from his death cert,hopefully, you know which area to start searching for his birth.
dont know cardiff area too well.

yes he was born in penrhyncoch aberystwyth,
good idea about cert for age, going to try and ask neighbour again for his age at death, didn't like to keep asking as it was annoying him he couldn't remember

also you can start with his parents marriage cert as that will give his fathers age etc ,as long as he told the truth of course,

What about his marriage? Surely your friend knows his mother's name! Including, hopefully, her birth surname. ... Well, duh, that would be on his own birth certificate.

If the marriage could be found, the certificate would state the spouses' ages and fathers' names.

there is a reg for j .j. davies in aberystwyth in 1893 which is the only one over 20 years
its on freebmd

i'm useless at this and in need of help - again :(

can't find the marriage of james john davies (birth cert say born 1893) and edith williams

can't find edith's birth either - i think i have found her in the 1901 census it says she was born in 1895 porth glamorgan (wales)
her parents lemuel williams
and margaret J but can't find either in any of the other census

what can i do? any help would much greatly appreciated

there is this marriage in 1926 but a spouse is missing and having checked the complete index the williams who married james davies was not called edith so we can rule that one out

i take it that james john davies and edith williams are your friends parents so you are sure of his parents names from his birth cert??
also what year was their eldest child born please so it gives us a better timescale to look for the marriage
for edith williams birth you will need her marriage cert first to get her age and fathers nameand occupation to be sure as there are hundreds of edith williams born around the right time all over the place

i think this is their marriage as there is a name missing on the page on freebmd but when checked on the full index it says that edith williams married james j davies

it was the correct cert edith was 35 yrs and her father was lemuel williams, going to look for her birth now :)
