Squeaky020 Report 19 Aug 2008 16:47

My great grandmother :

Annie Amelia Atkins born around 1879 (according to 1881 census) in Deanshanger, Northants.

She married George Ernest Hall in 1901 in northants.

I believe she died around 1950.

I cannot for the life of me find a birth entry or death for her.

Anybody's help would really really be appreciated.

Thank you.

I did see that one myself and pondered on it for a while...

but on the 1881 census it says that she was born deanshanger , northants.

Unfortunately I cannot find any other census entry for her to see what her place of birth is on them.

a little bit stuck.....

Squeaky020 Report 19 Aug 2008 17:09

That is what her name is Ann Atkins on the 1881 but then when she married my great grandfather George Ernest Hall in Q4 of 1901 , it states her name as Annie Amelia Atkins.

That has threw me completely.

So Ann / Anne/Annie Atkins or
Annie Amelia Atkins.....

Hi there,

I still don't know how you are sure that you are following the correct person. Do you have details from marriage certificate of her father?

Teresa

Squeaky020 Report 19 Aug 2008 17:33

Teresa,

I have not obtained the marriage certificate yet but is next on my 'to do' list.

As for the connection.... I suppose you saying that teresa has given me the wake up call, because I know for sure because of the marriage that it was Annie Amelia Atkins that married George Ernest Hall but without the certificate how do I know I am tracing the right one??

Eeeek !

Teresa

Teresa Report 19 Aug 2008 17:37

Hi,

You really need the certificate of the marriage before you can go any further. You would be gutted if you had followed a tree for generations and then found they weren't yours!! The certificate will cost you £7 and that will set you right.

Squeaky020 Report 19 Aug 2008 17:43

I have just ordered the certificate.

I guess I was just going by the area the rest of the family is from .....which I guess is being a bit presumptious ! (If thats the right word!)

Many thanks for the census entries Seaham Lass !!

Hello

I have received the marriage certificate for George Ernest Hall & Annie Amelia Atkins.

It states as Annie being 22 in 1901 and her father being named as John Atkins - Bricklayer.

Now then, still the question as to why I cannot find her birth entry when it says she was born in Deanshanger Northants.

Anyone's help would be appreciated.

Squeaky020 Report 29 Aug 2008 11:09

I am also very frustrated with her death.

I visited the graveyard at Deanshanger, Northants and found her & husbands grave.

I know from that she died on 27 November 1950 but I cannot for the life of me find her in the index.

Also still cannot find her in 1891 census and still cannot find her birth.

Ooooooooohhhhhhhh I am pulling me hair out !!!

Angela

Angela Report 29 Aug 2008 11:33

Hi Donna,

The 1891 census entry posted by Seaham Lass shows John Alkins (its mistranscribed on ancestry) actually reads Atkins and his occupation is a bricklayer.

The reference is Class: RG12; Piece: 1189; Folio 57; Page 17;

Also deaths: Dec qtr 1950 - Hall Annie A (age 71) - Brixworth vol. 3b page 467
