Tizzies ...

An awful lot of people hereabouts seem to get themselves into tizzies over the non-existent tizzies other people don't get themselves into ...

What is it that drives some people to respond to legitimate concerns expressed by other people by offering unsolicited advice about how to live?

This board is about genealogy. This thread is about the genealogy activities that go on at this board.

It isn't an invitation for anybody with an opinion about anything or anybody else, who happens to wander in, to offer it.

It most especially isn't an invitation to strangers to pretend to think that anyone is in a tizzy she isn't in, and issue instructions about how to get out of it.

just to nudge

Imagine getting in a tizzy about someone being in a tizzy when there has been a cyclone in Myanmar!

It's embarrassing to admit, isn't it, that one has spent maybe 15 minutes of one's life working on somebody's genealogy problem, only to realize ... or worse, only to have it pointed out to one after one has already proudly posted one's work ... that one is talking to someone who posted the question 5 years ago and undoubtedly has a tree going back to the middle ages by now ...

And all because someone posted a reply to a five-year-old post!

I really don't mind anyone doing that -- saying "I know it's been five years but I wanted to add this info about the family you were inquiring about". It's always good to have info on the boards.

But it's HELPFUL to point out to people that if they reply to a five-year-old post the overwhelming odds are that THEY WILL NEVER GET AN ANSWER! Because the person they are talking to doesn't know they have a reply ... or is dead ...

Two threads both with people who misunderstood what the original poster meant, both going the same way.
Tracy opening windows might work, maybe not though.
It is a shame that some people believe that the people who have been on here a while and give their time freely are being 'bossy' or dictating how the site should be run. I know that this is not true and that the begining of both threads was just advice but look where we are now on both of them.
Please folks before you make a derogatory comment read the thread from the begining and take the words as they are meant.
E-mails/threads can be impersonal things and words that were never meant to offend can be made offensive by those who misunderstand.
This is a friendly helpful site and I would love to see everyone getting on really well, but then I would like to see the end of world poverty as well. But then I have always been an optermistic about everything.

Just to nudge again...!!!

Angela thanks for your kind words... i wonder how many people blinker themselves on here, then suddenly the virtual world is all they have and it's all real...

My original post was not meant and nor do i think it was taken as being bossy or thoughtless, indeed the opposite... Not too sure where the Cyclone fits in??

....ooooh hang on, maybe thats what blew all these threads upside down?

Joan, whilst i take on board what you have said, i neither find your comments helpful or relevant... in time to come people will be looking at this and thinking wow yeah i never look at dates, memo to self... sadly they will also read your negative words and they will be as confused as we are about the random reasons for them....

Joan as this is MY THREAD, i will respectfully ask you make your comments relevant to the subject header or else don't post at all... I have seen someone else's good thread hijacked tonight i will NOT allow this to go the same way....

Seems fair and to the point to me....???

I'm surprised that a thread that's been running for nearly a month can suddenly cause cause someone to get into such a tizz.

The main purpose of the thread is to help people to help themselves.
