Sarah Mobey was born in 1877 father John Mobey mother Elizabeth Hough.

She also had an elder sister Sarah Jane born c. 1872 (not very helpful for genealogists!!)

The 1881 census has them as Mobley (on familyhistory online) and Sarah's elder sister is listed as a scholar aged 8.

ref RG11/3952 Folio 94 Page 33 FHL film no. 1341944

I can't find any reference to her on freebmd or the 1881 census under either Mobey or Mobley and I am just curious as to what happened to her.

I'm a little confused here. Maria. The one that Vera found was born the right time, right place and she was a professional singer. Just too much of a coincidence for my liking. Are you sure that you've got the right parents?

Maria, on the 1881 census that you quote there are children ranging in age from 8 months to 8 years and they were all born Salford, Lancashire. Why would your Sarah be born Macclesfield, Cheshire?

Yes I have the right parents and the rest of the family.

The eldest daughter Lydia was born In Congleton, Cheshire as was her younger brother Thomas R who only lived to three!!

The rest of the family were born in Salford, Lancs but bearing in mind how much birthplaces can vary from census to census I thought it worth checking the Macclesfield Sarah just in case she'd got her birth place wrong, also that the family had lived in Cheshire before.

,Have found Sarah Janes birth in 1872 in Salford....but nothing for Sarah 1877 Macclesfield.....except the Sarah Alice.

It is so strange she is not on the 1881 census with her parent, her dad isn't there..

Sorry for the delay in replying - I have been to the vets with the dog.

Yes funny John isn't with family in 1881 - wife Elizabeth is listed as head - but he didn't die until 1902.

Info on Sarah came from GR - click on name and get connections to census and other people's trees.

Perhaps she was with her father in 1881? On Mars!!
