Hi Sandra

Don't belittle yourself, we all had to start somewhere. It's like any hobby - you get better as time goes on. These boards are all about sharing what we have learned over the years.

I'm a wee bit concerned that you have said that the information that you gave was from the "birth cert of what I think is my Grandad". From his marriage certificate did the name and occupation of his father match that same information from the birth certificate that you have? Sorry if I am being picky here, just want to make sure that you have the correct people in your tree.

Hi Rootgatherer ,All I know of my dad's dad, is that he was born Charles Henry Dyas on 28/02/1887 and died 19/02/1971. He married Maud Marion Wells Born 28/03/1890 and died 14/09/1972. I was nearly 20 when my grandad died and they lived in Lincoln all that time and for as long as I remember. The info of birth and death was on their grave stones. Where they where born I have no idea. I wish that I had asked these questions when they where alive.. I don't know for sure if they had sibling. I do know that my grandad was a Signal man, but I don't know where. They had four children Charlie, Harold, Edgar ( my dad ) and Phyllis.
Hope this makes sense. I have got other info from Threads that I have placed. But deciphering it I find mind boggling.

If you haven't already done so, buy Charles's marriage certificate to confirm that you have the correct birth. (It certainly looks like the only possible one on freeBMD, assuming that the correct dates of birth are correct on the headstone)

From his marriage certificate you can cross check his father's name and occupation.

Dyas Charles H Wells Boston 7a 989
Wells Maud M Dyas Boston 7a 989

Again, if you don't already know, the marriage certificate will tell you if his or Maud's father is deceased.

Thanks Rootgatherer, I do have the marriage and birth certificate for Charles Henry Dyas. I am going to order the birth cert for Maud Marion Wells. It might take a bit of time, but it will give me a bit more to go on.
I don't know how you all do this its difficult for me just doing my family but you all do it for other people.
I hope that one day I will be able to return the favor...
Bye for now
Sandra PS. I'm getting quicker at typing though. It used to be just 2 fingers.
