[EDIT: Oops! Just noticed that Sheena already has this, and all its info! Well, I'll leave it for the record.]

This is the death record which Linda found on an Ancestry tree on 21 Feb:

1913 SULLIVAN THOMAS M 63 PLANTATION GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/20 0196

It says:
Thomas Sullivan, dock labourer, married to Isabella Allan.
Died 9.55pm 30/06/1913 at 72 Eaglesham Street, Govan, Glasgow.
Parents: Thomas James Sullivan, blacksmith, deceased.
Maria Sullivan, ms De l'Coutts , deceased.
Cause of death: Lobar pneumonia.

I hope Sheena comes back to read her replies.

Guernsey marriage records show the names of the parents of the Bride & Groom. Researching these may give an indication of where Marie might have gone to have her child and therefore where her child may have been baptised.

The records are all at the Priaulx Library and are the tapes are very readable and the staff helpful. I am surprised that no evidence has been found.

Maybe Sheena could arrange a short holiday in Guernsey and do some research herself. It is also very possible that she will find the houses the family lived in still standing.

Do you have access to Genes records? If so you should find it on there by typing in one of the names listed

The census Reggie listed is from Find my Past which should be the same as GR

Many thanks to everyone who has posted a reply. I have been trying to find my great grandfather's birth details and details of his parents for a very long time!
In the past I have paid for Guernsey Ancestry to search their records for me and also the Archives of Jersey Heritage, but sadly neither of them could find any trace of the family.
I posted this message this year at WDYTYA in the hope that somebody somewhere might have a new angle on the family, or had come across a new line of research for the Channel Islands.
I thank you all again for taking the time to reply.
To Reggie: Please can you tell me how I can access this 1841 census you found? This is so that I can have a look for myself.
Kind regards Sheena

What is the point of the GR 'team' posting requests if they don't monitor them?

Guernsey records, which can go as far back as the 1500's are NOT available on line.

I presume the questioner has contacted www.priaulxlibrary.co.uk.in St Peter Port. If they cannot trace Thomas birth then I suggest looking at the marriage and birth place of Thomas mother Marie.

Edit: This same question has been asked in several places over the last few years obviously with no success. If the Priaulx Library is not able to help then try
La Société Guernesiaise at http://www.societe.org.gg/sections/familyhistory.php.

Team - when you are getting marriage details from clients will you also please get the wife's name?

This is vital when trying to trace the person. Thank you.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 21 Feb 2014 12:16

Not seeing a seaman's card or crew list for anyone of that name with those birth details.
