Well, it's only £7 for a cert - why not send off for your father's birth cert? At least you know his date of birth and where born and that will show his mum's maiden name.

Hi Jill
Having already paid considerable amount in cert fees for other side of the family can I be sure Dad's birth cert will state maiden name of mother as he was born in August 1895
Thanks
Mary

Well it should do. They normally state father's name and occupation plus mother's maiden name.

you really do need to send for your father's birth certificate. Other than finding all the details in a baptism record if you knew where he was baptised it is the only certain way of proving his mother's name.

DO NOT pay more than £7 for a certificate.

Not sure if the £14 you referred to in your first post meant for 1 or 2 certificates.

The actual b.cert shows the mother's names - it's just not shown in the index back then, and it's the index you're searching in.

Mary....Although you say Mary E. was the eldest...How do you know that...was the info. taken from the 1891 Census...? If so dont rely on that being accurate children can be born and have died in the interim periods...
There is a Death of a Philip Kelly aged 6 yrs 1895 listed for L.Pool.
Have a look at the 1911 Census for the number of children J and M had ...it shows living and died.
For ref. Living with Philip Reilly (next door) was Catherine Kelly aged 15yrs
and down at No.9 was John (52) and Mary Kelly (53).

The surname Riley/Reilly/*Rielly* (as per entry in Holy Cross Church Marriage Record) are the way it has been written by the transcriber.

If the family were RC then the "Quinn" marriage should have listed "Registrar attended" .
Let us know how you come on...

Hi Erin
Thanks for your assistance .I do know Mary Ellen was oldest as I remember meeting her ( 1 of the very few relatives I ever met because of a family row) when I was very young. I have found my Dad's family on the 1911 census. My grandmother now a widow Philip and my Dad living with Mary Ellen ( Farrell) as she is now. (RG14PN22127 RG78~PN1311.
My problem is still not knowing Margaret's maiden name and the more I search the more I am becoming convinced they were probably not married until 1881/1882 as she had children in 82/83/85/87/88/90/92/94/95 .I can't believe they would wait a few years and then have 9kids in rapid succession
I knew researching Kelly's would be difficult but did not realise would hit problem immediately.Think I will have to flash the credit card for GRO Dad@s birth cert

many thanksoffice and get
