... how some people's surnames match their occupation?

I was reading the local paper for Herne Bay recently and they were advertising the opening of a new branch of a well-known estate agents. The Manager's name? Mr Goodsell, LOL!

Anyone else seen any good ones?

Those are all so funny!!

Makes you wonder if, when they were teens, they decided on a career based on their surname. Good sense of humour if they did!

Personally, I don't think I'd be able to keep a straight face if I came face to face with a dentist called Mr Fang or Pullem LOL

I believe its called something like 'nominative predeterminism' (or something like that) and is actually a recognised phenomena that's studied in sociology/pyschology etc terms - ie the extent to which someone's future occupation is, even on just a subconscious level, determined by their surname. The term Aptonym (or alternatively aptronym) also applies.

Wow, Simon - thanks for that info! I've just been having fun Googling lists of aptonyms - found some really funny ones:

Scott Constable - a police officer
Mr D'Eath - a surgeon
Miss Baldy - a hairdresser
Will Dunn - a lawyer

Hehehe - I didn't realise that this was a recognised phenomena and that people had actually set up websites about it!
