OH took car to garage for MOT today, I was told wait for garage to phone to advise me of any work needed on car. Just for curiosity asked my OH what was done last year, the answer Cam Belt, and water pump.

Just had a phone call from girl at garage, she said to me "the tecnician has looked at car, and said cam belt due for replacement." Ah, I said, the cam belt was changed last mot I told her, she rustles few papers and say oh yes, oh thats all right then. End of call,,,,,,,,,,,,

what do you think????????

same as me Marion - don't know why I asked OH what had been done? Don't think they need changing every year though!!

I think it is also a service Joan - not sure will text hubby to ask him.

but by looking at it they wouldnt know the cam belt needed doing!!!!!!!!!.....unless it was broken

cam belts are done every few THOUSAND miles depending on the car!!

me thinks they are trying it on - OH knows nothing about cars either.

for anyone living in the Cardiff area I have a great garage which services my car - totally trustworthy - wouldn't recommend them if they weren't. D & J Motors, Wentloog Road, Rumney. They are trained Nissan speciaists but do all cars, do not over charge by any means

Cariad,If possible get your MOT.done at a place that just does them.We have one in our Area ( Sussex) called Just MOTs,Thats all they do.No fiddles etc,And never have your car Serviced at the same time.Its a Rip off,Thats why they terminated the call.**M**.

if a cam belt breaks your car will NOT go anywhere ........

Kemp looked at last MOT invoice, and found that cam belt was looked at and re-tensioned, there seems to be no charge for this. But 2005 MOT the cam belt was replaced and cost £52, so not sure now.

Husband has been going there for years, as I said before, he has to trust them as knows nowt himself.

you need to check what your car is and then ask around about how many miles between each cam belt change ......
what car is it ?

Hi Kemp spoken with husband, he says no need for a replacement, not happy with garage for suggesting it.

It is a vauxhall astra

In my area the local council have a department who do MOT's,
that's all they do,no repairs,no services,
so they have nothing to gain if your car fails its MOT

Last year my car was killed by its own cam belt!

Thanks for all your advice Kemp. Don't think we will be getting a big bill, might have been a mistake on garage part, they should have looked at service records for our car, not just phoned up saying cam belt due for renewal.!!

sounds like yo need to pick a little garage privately owned , they dont usually rip you off,
its these bigger places that sometimes do,
i dont trust them unless dad knows um
