Penny

Penny Report 19 Jan 2008 19:21

bit confused with your dates/years

THEIR FIRST CHILD WAS BORN IN 1845 ........ HE APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN MARRIED PREVIOUSLY AND HIS FIRST WIFE SEEMS TO HAVE DIED IN AND AROUND 1849 SHE WAS CALLED MARY ANN

1st wife died 4 years after he had a child with 2nd wife? is that right?

T J

T J Report 19 Jan 2008 19:32

in the 1841 census he was with his first wife Mary and their is no sign of him in the 1851 census ... Elizabeth and John do not appear to have had any residence until 1861 and then they had a house on wharf street in sowerby bridge .......
I reckon the first wife and him split prior to her death

Penny

Penny Report 19 Jan 2008 19:49

when was he born?

can you just confirm that the 1845 child was born to the second wife, 4 years before 1st wife died?

~Summer Scribe~ Report 19 Jan 2008 19:51

Did the first wife actually die? If she didn't actually die then that would explain why you can't find a marriage.

Morning everyone

The reason I think that he was married before is because of the 1841 census listing him with Mary and two children Thomas born c1832 and Henry born 1840 (soyland is not a very big place) and then there is a gap before the next child is born in 1845 and John is Listed with another woman - but there is no wonder i couldn't find them in the 1851 census if they were listed under the name of BLACKHAM - tha nx for that Minnie - they are the one and same.

I found john's Baptism in the Parish Register (records held in the Library) but again I looked for the marriage to ELIZBETH and found NOTHING -

Maybe it is me that is a bit thick eh????

Thanx for all your help everyone I really appreciate it

xxxxxxxx:-)))

Class HO107 Piece 1304 Book 13

Penny

Penny Report 20 Jan 2008 10:10

ok ( thanks)

What makes that one yours?

T J

T J Report 20 Jan 2008 10:20

Ok Minnie

Piece 1302 Bk 7 lists him as being in Ovenden which is about 10 miles + away from Soyland

Piece 1303 Bk 16 lists him as being in Rastrick which is about 20 miles away from Soyland

Family history Line appears to have stayed in and around the Ripponden / Sowerby Bride area ( approx 2 miles away from Soyland) after making enquiries in and around that area the Ripponden Church St Bartholomews is the parent church for Barkisland and Soyland ....

Both Elizabeths and Johns Graves are in Sowerby Bridge Cemetery in a family plot - both James and Rebecca were laid to rest in this family plot too ......

In 1861 census there is another child AMEY who was born in 1860 accirding to the census of 1861 - but she is not in the family plot or mentioned again ..........in fact to be honest she has disappeared off the face of the earth !!!!!!!!! lol
