Anybody got them? I have them all over the house. The kids have busted the ones at my front windows - pulled all the beading off them plus they are really grubby.

Went on a trip today with a view to buying new ones but it is looking like about £200 for one bay window !!!

Has anybody ever tried shoving the slats in the washing machine?

I'm really tempted to try as I really don't have that money to spare after Christmas.

I don't know where they came from as they were here when I moved in so have no idea if they are washable or not.

I've found the beading on ebay quite cheap and the weights at the bottom so can do a repair job - I just want to get them clean now. Any advice most welcome !! xx

Will they go all soggy and funny though Hayley? There's no washing instructions on them - I'm worried they'll just disintegrate lol xx

I've got them on every window - some of them are washable. However, my kitchen ones fell down and they were a bit grubby so I decided to dunk them in the sink. They were fine - only problem was that they became rather stiff and out of shape so what I did was peg them on the line at full stretch and poured hot water over them - the whole width and all the creases came out and they hung properly and they are back up now and look fine!! Give it a go I say. by the way, they weren't meant to be washed!!

my cat constantly walks in and out of them and if the clips come off they fit back on quite easily.

At my last company we used to take the blinds down in the canteen and put them through the dishwasher - used to work a treat but the were industrial blinds

Hi Muffy,
I wash mine and hang them back up damp.
I hand wash them though in Soap flakes and have never had any probs.
Good luck xxxxx

It's really odd the cats are always at the front window and they are as gentle as anything.

It's when Daddy goes to work - they yank them apart with their chocolatey hands - hence totally wrecked.

I was very tempted to buy new but the same thing will doubtless only happen again if I do - then I will get cross and that's no way to live your life lol.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm going to shove one slat in on a cool wash now and hope for the best *gulps* lol xx

I've put mine in the bath and gone at them with a nail brush before and they were fine, I might try the washing machine method though. It's amazing what you find out on here!

Well if it shrinks, hang it back up where the girls stick their heads and bingo, you've got yourself a peep hole.

No need to thank me for my great idea.

Well let me be the test pilot Helen. They are in now so if it's successful I'll let you know.

I know I should really hand scrub them etc but I am really far too lazy. AND they are in a shocking state I really think it's machine or nothing for them xx

I also put them in the bath think the washing machine might cause wrinkles. Then take them out of the bath and hang over the washing line till the water drips off then hang them damp, have washed them twice and no problem.

I got mine as a deal, a lot of companies do them
Got three - any size windows for £300 and had them for about five years and had no problem.

My late auntie got her OH to wallpaper hers when they got grubby, sounds awful doesn't it?? But they did look brill as they matched the wall paper in her room lol

Hi Muffy, I wash mine put them in dryer then spray them with starch and iron them, you just have to check if they are sewn or glued along the hems if glued it might come off in the wash
good luck with them
Love Jackie

Just checked they are sewn ones not glued *phew* lol. I'm happy to starch and iron them if they go a bit lumpy (though would rather not cos as I said before I'm dead lazy lol) xx
