enjoying reading all your lovely replies, thank you so much - will take him to the vet tomorrow or Saturday. By the way Liz he only likes tuna in brine - won't eat it in oil!! John Wests usually - he's proper spoilt.

So he is Prince Caddy, really then Ann? lol
Don't they do one in something else other than brine or oil or could you drain the oil away and give him some then, I just wonder if it is a bit salty for him, but maybe you don't give it to him very often?

Are there any new cats in the area Ann ?
I have four cats and they go in and out of the cat flap whenever they want/need to
they have never been "dirty"in the house.....until recently.New neighbours moved next door in April.To my horror I believe they have at least 9 cats.None of them have been "done".
To cut the story short.......one of them is a NASTY tom.......now my little cat is frightened to out side and my old boy of 17 got badly beaten .....my big ginger and white has a good go back but he is causing trouble every day.
Regarding possiale cystitis....try and watch when Caddy is outside...if a cat keeps digging holes one after another
but not doing it's buisness,there is probably a problem.

These days the dried foods that are available, even the cheaper ones are fine so long as your cat drinks water. Its hard to guage if you have a cat that goes outside as some cats prefer rain water.

Ann, In these circumstances I would say its some kind of psychological issue. Shut the spare room door if you can and dont let him/her in there. Problem solved!

Usually when cats who are normally clean start doing this it is because of a urine infection (as already said)...
Sometimes, if it's painful for the cat to go it can start to associate pain with that particular place, for example a cat who normally goes on a litter tray may go everywhere but in the litter tray as it thinks thats why it hurts....

I think a trip to the vets should get to the heart of the problem....

My cats(3) are on dry food( Hills Science Diet) and tinned food.Always have a dog dish of water filled 2x a day so there is no problems.

Vet recommended Hills.

I had to stop giving my cats Tuna in brine as it can give them Kidney infections it is too salty for them.

Vet told me to stop giving the cats tuna.

ps I only fill the water dish 2x day cos they get loads of cat hairs in it.

how nice of you to ask Jean. He is fine thank you. To begin with I immediately stopped giving him tuna in brine and replaced it with Whiskas pouches - he loves it and is asking for it all the time!!! I bought a spray from Pets at Home and sprayed everywhere he had been that he shouldn't have been. I am a coward at taking him to the vet [he is insured by the way!] so I left it a day or two to see how things went and hey ho, he has been a good boy ever since! I am so very grateful to you all for caring so much and for helping me. Caddy sends his thanks as well!!
