Hi Glynis I had a interview on Saturday and do staff ever sit down and talk to residents this home is for senile residents as I never worked in 1 before I asked what is done on a shift and she said feed and toilet runs nothing about interaction

.................woooooo i'd check it out a bit more. I work in an E.M.I. home and yes we do those things BUT we also spend time with the residents, talking , playing games, anything to occupy them.
We have a hairdresser come in once a week, and a lady comes in to do nails twice a week. Outside entertainment comes in, and for those that are able, we take to the shops in the village.

We have singing sessions, as well as dancing, some join in, maybe for just a few minutes, others watch, but enjoy(I hope).

Any help??

Julie I would advise you to ask for further details on proceedures within this home as interaction with patients /residents in nursing and care homes is extremely important.

Caring does not and should not be confined to feeding and toileting .

Best of luck

yes thanks I just had a bit of a shock when they showed me round seeing all the residents sitting on their own staff busy doing other things in the bedrooms this was 11.30 in morning could be just me as this all new head nurse seemed very old fashion as well she just spoke of feeding and tiolet runs

GI YID Report 7 Jan 2008 10:42

Julie we have 20 residents all with dementia. We have 3 care staff on duty during the day on either 7-2 or 2-9 shifts. And there's 2 staff on at night between 9-7.

Is ok unless someone goes sick....................
