Yes that makes total sense.
Right click on one of the files that will not open and one of the options on the list will be "Open With"
That should give you a list of programmes on your computer that may open the file - give it a try.

Comes up with Microsoft Photo edotor or Paint, but neither will open then.

I have noticed that the first file is fine , all photos available, but half way through second file they stop becoming available and none of the other files are available at all.

Could it be the disc like you said earlier

Sorry to be a pain

You are not being a pain - I know how frustrating it can be.
It is starting to sound like a bad or corrupt disc copy.
Are the images still on your old computer?

This is exacly the point I got to Errol when I had a new pc. But as I still had old one I re opened the photos and changed the names from for example DSCN 1129 to DSCN 1129.jpeg even thought they were saved as jpgs and it worked for me.

Please dont shout at me Errol - My OH does what I think you do and he dosent understand my logic either and gets frustrated with the way I do things. But it worked.

lol Maddie - the best thing to do is a batch rename
For example change it all from dscnxx.jpg to something more meaningful for starters - Windows will even change the numbers sequentially for you automatically.
Then reburn to disc (or add to a memory stick) and try to open on the new machine.
You could also try the "Transfer files and settings" wizzard.

Keep me posted and if that doesn't work there are other ways of doing it.
Some a tad laborious but do not worry - your photographs are NOT lost.
