I wouldnt worry too much about the wind at Feurtaventa - its mainly in the evenings you notice it and a light jacket will suffice. Just be extra careful with sun lotion in the day - the wind is nice and cooling in the day, but tourists often forget its a lot hotter than it feels because of the wind. I am fair skinned and use P20 over there - its a bit more pricey than say your boots or superdrug sun lotion but you put it on just once a day (its more like alcohol in appearance) and you can swim as often as you like without reapplying. |

Thank you everyone for your kind replies-I have always wanted to go to Fuerteventura I seen the brochures and the long sandy beaches and they look heaven-the wind though puts me off a bit-I'm basically after an island that's prob not as touristy as say tenerife, but will have nice beaches for the kids, the place we stay at will have to have a kids club, cos the biggest part of this holiday will be the kids and not just mine and OH's needs. The place just needs to have some nice restraunts and shops not too lively or big-no nightclubs or out. so as I have never been I don't know which island is best. |

If you have kids, get one with a kids club. Or if you decide on all inclusive check that out too. |

you will of course get different from everyone Catherine. it depends what you are looking for. Tenerife South has a good beach for children at Los Cristianos and Las Americas. Lanzarote, we like Costa Teguise which has an excellent beach for children. Also depends when you are looking to go. Sometimes Tenerife is warmer than Lanzarote and sometimes Tenerife and Grand canaria re going to be wetter than Lanzarote. lanzarote and Fuerteventura can both be windy. |

We went to Maspalomas in Gran Canaria a couple of years ago. It was a nice place but not much doing really, especially for the kids. We usually go to Tenerife and stay at the coste adeje end of las americas. There are some nice hotels and apartments there. An hour or so away in puerto de la cruz you can go to Loro Parque for the day, the kids love it there. It's like a big zoo with tigers, aligators etc... and they do some fantastic shows. There's the sealions, dolphins, parrots and a fab killer whale show. |

Ive been going to Fuertaventura for almost 15 years (am thinking of buying a place there). Its lovely all year round. There are only two high rise hotels on the whole island. The crime rate is low and its a great place for adults and children alike. |

Catherine... Fuerteventura is my very favourite. A bit windy, so can feel cooler than it is. We stayed in the same place twice... very relaxed, I'll try and remember where it is exactly, but there are dozens of places to eat... and you are right on the beach and harbour so perfect. I believe it is where Planet of the Apes was filmed, too. We loved it, not as commercial either. |
