Wally Dugs are cheap porcelain dog statues.
We used to smash them and use the stuff for drawing beds

Are they those dredful looking china or porceline dogs you see on the antiques roadshow that sit either side of the fire place (should be in it if you ask me).

"Wally" refers to china/porcelain. Apparently, in Scotland, "wallies" is also slang for "false teeth" (which were also made of porcelain at one time). So, at a guess, I'd say that "wally dug" is probably Scottish slang/vernacular for "china dog" (wally dog/dug).
Let's hope someone from Scotland can jump in and help explain it further.

Maddie is most offended!!! She paid £350.00 each for her porceline teeth and they bare no resemblance to those dogs!!!!

BTW they are not false - my teeth are filed and they are sort of cemented on top lol

MarionfromScotland

MarionfromScotland Report 30 Dec 2007 22:13

Maddiecow Report 30 Dec 2007 22:29

God help us - I have two Mad rescues as it is and anything of value has to be locked in a cabinet or put in the loft ...... with the exception of me teeth lol

Recon the my two would attack Wally dogs or cats if left on the floor.

MarionfromScotland

MarionfromScotland Report 30 Dec 2007 22:38

The Wally Dugs, from Dundee, were Pat Finnegan (guitar, 5 string banjo, voclas), George Getty (guitar, mandolin, whistle, bagpipes, vocals) and Neil McLeod (guitar, voclas). They were active in the late 1970s, and recorded an LP, The Road to Dundee, in 1987
