Dawnieher3headaches Report 21 Dec 2007 10:09

I was getting lower rate DLA nothing for mobility so asked for it to be looked at again.
Just got letter refusing to change it there point is I only need help cooking a meal nothing else.

dont get mobility cos I can walk even though it is slowly in an adequate manner and people are only with me for guidance and assurance.

so maybe I should throw my stick away and fall over break some bones and then mabe they will think differently.

Or maybe I should stop going out as its too painful and then they will have one less to contend with

They obviously dont beleive me, but then why am so surprised by that

Appeal Dawn, I am sure they turn you down hoping you wont appeal. My sister can walk some days but not others. When she was here with me she walked all round Cheltenham shopping, she goes up to London and walks round some of the shops. OK she is in pain th next day but she does walk. However she has a mobility allowance, gets her car tax free, has a Disability card for the car etc. She didn't have to appeal but it probably depends where you live, she is in Hampshire. The doctor asked her when he visited, how far can you walk from here? (her back door), and how far can you walk back again. she does have a stair lift she paid for herself so that may have convinced him. But I think you should appeal.

Dont suppose I have anything to lose by appealing in letter they say they have gone on evidence from the hospital, gp,treatment, medications, test results and claim form.

Now if I could fulfil my dream of running the london marathon could understand their refusal but know that willstay a unfulfilled dream.

Maybe I should invite them to come and see me then they can see how slow I walk round the house and have to hold onto walls and how I have to keep getting up as cant get comfortable with my hips and back.

When I asked Hubby if he beleived me he says nobody would be this moody, ratty and grumpy for the fun of it.

Social worker friend always has said that no matter how educated you are and used to filling in forms - ALWAYS take a form to claim benefit of any kind to the C.A.B. to fill in. Then the next issue is that apparently 80 - 85% of claims are automatically disallowed on presentation - reasoning being that people will be disheartened and will not appeal - thus saving money!!!!!!!

Now get in there girl and fight it - remember all those nice people from Europe working here who are claiming for their children living back in Europe!!!!!!

Good luck Dawn, have another go at them - what have you got to lose? except your patience of course. Shame they don't get a few disabled people on their committees who would understand how you feel.

Do please use CAB to help you fill in the form I know lots of people that have had their claim upheld after CAB filled in the form.

Never give up. Good luck.
