I had a superb relationship with my MIL. She only ever asked that we spent Christmas eve night at hers the rest of the break was down to us to choose where we went.

She never took sides or interferred. In fact she told me from the start to tell her if she ever did. I did tell her once that she was getting on my wick and she laughed and gave me a cuddle.

She died 10 yrs ago yesterday. I miss her to bits. I considered her more of a friend than a MIL.

She'd have loved my girls with a passion and would've made a superb Nanny.

Sadly she died 3 yrs before my eldest was born. Though she died thinking she was going to be a Nanny ( I miscarried 4 days after she died).

I sympathise with everyone who has MIL's from hell. My mum didn't get on with hers and I've seen it from the nasty side.

I was just so lucky to have had mine for the short time I was given. Just wish I'd had the chance to know her for longer.

Sorry to go soppy. Bad time of year for me. But for every 20 bad MIL's there must be one diamond like mine out there xx

Awwww that's lovely Errol xx

Eldest has inherited her artistic streak but neither look like her. She had two boys though and had a yearning for a girl. She'd have cut her right arm off for a girl. I remember when I told her I was expecting (we knew she didn't have long) she expressed a desire for a grand daughter. Said she wouldn't be disappointed with a boy but a grand daughter would be the cherry on the icing on the cake such a shame she didn't get to see them. She was only 50 when she died xx

My first MIL was awful ..... I learned to play Golf just to spend days out with FIL rather than be left at home with her!!

Next one was ok .... but lived in the shadow of her sons and husband and never thought for herself.

OH and I been together 9 Years and I love his MUM - I often tell him thats halfthe reason I put upwith him lol.

Shes in her Mid 70's but so lively and fun and never ever interferes - I actually enjoy her company and going out for the day is fun and not a chore.

No Muffy dont buy a hat.....

If you are happy Maddie then why stress yourself? I think you are doing the right thing not commiting money and emotional stress to it.

We bogged off to Las Vegas for our wedding and had a superb time.

Lots of people took issue with us but we had the day we wanted without the crippling expense. I was told I'd regret it but I never have. xx

Thanks Catherine hon.

It's only numbers I know but losing MIL and first baby to miscarriage 10 yrs ago brings it home to me for some reason.

Some years it's ok other years it's not.

I know you know what I mean.

This year isn't one of the better ones but I have a lot to be thankful for xx

Thank you Val and Kathryn xx
