Favourite foods from the past, your mother used to make and you can,t quite replicate the taste..

My favourite was cheese pie - which actually contained onions; bacon; and obviously cheese.

Yours?

Happy days

My Mum's
Yorkshire Puddings, Corned Silverside (Corned Beef), Meat and Potato Pie, Cornish pasties,
Apple, Rhubarb, Blackberry or Gooseberry pie, Custard Tarts amongst a lot of other things

One thing my Mum did do wrong was overcook Vegetables
I like them on the crispy side and her's were all mushy.

I love to cook also and was taught a lot from my Mum and Grandma.
When my Grandaughter comes to stay with me I let her help me too. I don't think a lot of mothers show their children how to cook these days.
WE were also taught it in school and I don't think they do it in a lot of the schools Such a shame.

My Dad always used to say that I was a better cook than my Mum. Mind you she used to say it also. She cooked because she had to. I cook because I like it.

Regards
Jackie

My mother was (still is) the most awful cook! tg I can't replicate the taste or I'd have starved to death by now LOL.

Hello Harry, as soon as I saw this thread I thought......the chicken noodle pie.......my, that was the very best pie ever.....

We used to go camping and we were starving.....Mum had made this chicken pie and had cooked some chicken noodle soup, drained off the liquid and left the noodles in the pie.....we were so famished we ate it cold......I can still remember the taste of it now....

My Mum and Dad were good at inventing dishes......they used to call them b*gger ups.....and all sorts went into them, but they did taste good....

Dad would, even after Mum died, put concoctions together.....he would say.....guess what I ate today Sally.....and I could never......

Thank you folks. To resurrect a touch of magic or nostalgoa is no bad thing.

Off to Morrisons for fish; chips and peas. Hardly world shattering, but we both enjoy it.
