WE loved them all.

We never had the money for a cine camera, and often not the price of a film for the camera.... but in my memory.... they will last forever.

Ive been to everyone of my kids school plays i wouldnt miss them for the world even though each performance i would make a prat of myself and cry in public lol still have all the pics labelled with the year and the programmes to each.

Out of the mouth of babes......lol.
I really miss the school plays, mine are too old now

Your story reminds me of a teaching collegue who went to work in another school where they decided to thoroughly acquaint the children with the story, then let the children ad.lib. the lines.
...What possessed them?

All was going well, Mary safely delivered the baby and was greeting visitors to the stable.
...(Said in broad Brummie accents )

Visitor:-...Hello Mary, how are you?

Mary:- Oh I'm OK but the babby's been a little b..... all day.

Gwynne that's so funny.

Our school is not doing anything this year as the school is going through some major building work. It should have been my youngest first school play, I will miss it but never mind.

It was my first year as a teacher and I had written and directed the musical Nativity play for the junior department. The infants were doing a little panto (which I'd also written). We alternated year by year.

To say I was feeling stressed would be an understatement.

We rehearsed twice a week after school. One of the shepherds (aged 11) lived next door but 2 to me and I had baby sat him from when he was small.

He had taken great exception to me suddenly becoming a teacher in his school and his parents had told him he had to call me "Miss" in school. This he refused to do and managed to get by without calling me anything.

On the last night he and the other shepherds were waiting to go on behind me in the wings. Mary and Joseph were onstage pleading with the Innkeeper. Mary was suppose to have baby Jesus concealed in her luggage. S (as I shall call him) suddenly spotted the baby Jesus in the wings near us.

He quite forgot all formalities,

"Bluddy Hell, Gwynne, she's only gone and forgotten Jesus!"

Realising he had committed two faux pas in one short sentence (swearing and calling a teacher by her first name) he clamped his hands over his mouth and whined, "Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!"

The other shepherds were stunned and stood with gaping mouths waiting for a thunderbolt to strike.

Meanwhile Mary had realised what she had done and her eyes were filling with tears as she looked towards the wings where Jesus lay. The Angel Gabriel was on the ball and picked up the doll and signaled to Mary that she would bring it on.

So the show went on. S muttered, "Sorrysorrysorrysorry" until it was time to go on and then forgot all his lines. The other shepherds covered for him manfully and all was well in the end.

S's parents treated me to a stiff drink in the pub later that night.

lol Jackie well I have seen my son's dvd already most of it is the side of a t-towel until his teachers pops on the screen and turns his whole body round to face the camera. the best scene is the 3 kings who just chuck the pressies for jesus in the manger for baby jesus.

I'm with Gwynne on this one!

Rehersals are under way at work for our production next week starring 30 2 and 3 year olds. It is based on the traditional Christmas story but with a few extra characters.

Yesterday Joseph decided he wanted to have the baby (produce it from under the chair), the cow decided to come over and rock the cot and the donkey thought the baby should be taken out and cuddled. The Christmas tree wanted an angels's star to hold and the snowman wants to be a shepherd. One of the angels wanted to see what was in the present for Jesus and the reindeer hid behind Mary and Joseph.

Apparently it will be all right on the night!
