Well I think it's a great idea - don't know about the rest of you. We have here some excellent well written stories, a snapshot of the past. How about someone with the knowhow collating them and making them into a book in order to raise funds for a charity? Say Alzheimers as a suggestion seeing as the stories are about memory! Anyone agree?

Good moaning, Anne.

Think this is a damn good idea.
Please don't ask me to collate it tho; it takes me all my time just to type on here!

My M/PIL used to live in Whitchurch; St Margaret's Road.

They lived in No.3, second one in on the left as you turn in from the shops.
They were there for about ten years after they left the Vicarage in Neyland.
Oh, happy memories

Jo

Did you know the Ferdas who lived immediately opposite, and had the dress shop round the corner? Does Peter (or his ex-wife) still run it?

Oh, I am sorry; I have completely got off your thread.
Yes, I really do think that somehow putting all our knowledge together would be a really worthwhile task.
Could someone set up a specific site with password, and Genes' members put their notes onto it?

I know Ferda house but don't know if they still live there - the shop closed a long time ago and I know that they are into acting - involved in performances held outdoors in Duffryn Gardens - the shop is now an up market hairdressers! Tesco's has the grocers on the corner and Bests Fruit and Veg shop sadly closed a few months back - everything else there much the same. Village itself looks essewntially the same but there are a lot of different shops now.

With regard to this memory thread - we'll have to hope some clever person comes on board with some good ideas - I'm sure there's someone who'll know what to do - it's all very well having ideas - putting them into practice is a different ball game!

off to bed again now - having trouble sleeping tonight!!

Oh no, Ann, I know the Ferdas do not live there any more. I knew both Mr. and Mrs. Ferda well, and remember when they died. Mr. F first. I did like both of them so much.
I had a lot of good but expensive stuff from their shop.
My MIL is now in Portland, and I will tell her about her old shops.
My FIL's funeral service was held in the church just down the road. He is in the big cemetery off the dual carriageway - can't think of its name at this time of night.
Sorry to deviate from your good idea, but my MIL will be very interested in what has happened to the shops. Is the butcher still there?

Jo

Sorry to keep you up! Sleep well.

Joanna - Lowey the butcher has gone but hs been replaced with the best butcher in Cardiff - Martin Player. If you pm me I will give you my email and can tell you a lot more about the village if you like? We've gone right off the subject now, but not to worry, just a minor diversion folks!

Great idea - we are all from different areas, different countries for that matter and of different ages. I think a book would be superb. (I know an author who might be able to give us some tips re publishing and marketing). As far as which charity we support I do like Alzheimers as my gran died from the condition and suffered awfully in the later stages of the illness

great Colin - we may very well get somewhere with this don't you think? All comments welcomed folks!

Memories

Who says my mind has gone away
I see my youth there every day
I replay my life where none can go
I meet the friends who've had to go

So don't tell me I'm getting old
And now must do just what I'm told
I laugh and play inside my head
And wander paths that once I tread

So when it seems I am not there
It's just a thought I cannot share
Please be patient with me when I'm slow
I might be somewhere else you know

I hope you too can store away
The memories of what we share
Then in the late days of your time
You can recall as I do mine
