> 'Life is beautiful.'
>
> If you receive it DO NOT OPEN THE FILE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES , and
> delete it immediately.
>
> If you open this file, a message will appear on your screen saying:
> 'It is too late now, your life is no longer beautiful.'
>
> Subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC and the person who
> sent it to you will gain access to your name, e-mail and password.
>
> This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon.
>
> AOL has already confirmed the severity, and the antivirus softwares
> are not capable of destroying it.

Hi Pauline, Hi All :):)

This one is actually a Hoax mail that has been doing the rounds since 2002.

Most hoax mails get others to send it to as many people as they can, its the way they work, they clog up e mail systems.

Thank you for adding the warning though, I would rather see one a hundred hoax warnings then one nasty virus

Colin :):)

aaarrrggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

How many more times?

Please please check out information before posting. This particular hoax has been around for about six years or so.

All this sort of thing serves to do is cause people to run around in a mad panic and email every single person they have ever come across in their lives, thus clogging up email servers around the world. It's a bit like a Mexican wave as it travels around the globe.

I probably write a message similar to this half a dozen times every week!

Pauline,thanks
Your warning is well meant, but it is just as well to google the alleged name of a virus first, but do not panic,
most virus' are in attachments.....or in links to other websites...
as far as I am aware
just reading a email is NOT likely to cause any harm...

looks like i am wrong there!!! see later posts!!

Not at all Pauline - I just find it so frustrating. I just hope people start to check facts out and do a little research - it only takes a couple of minutes. These hoaxes exist purely to create mischief and get us all emailing like mad.

Hey Pauline :):)

You were right to ask, we are all learning new things all the time and the only way we learn is to find out things from others , me included :):)

Anytime you feel a little stuck or need help ask , hopefully someone will help you along the way :):)

Thanks Bob and Errol will google in the future to avoid this and i have learnt something new today as well like being able to google the virus name i didn't know that you could.

Pauline.

Would it be sensible to pull this thread off the board ?

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 27 Nov 2007 10:00

Bob just reading an email CAN cause harm.
One of the preferred methods used these days is through graphics. When you open an email, if your settings allow viewing of graphics, a message is sent to a remote server requesting the image to be downloaded and thus confirming that the email address is active.
This is why you should block graphics and only open them if absolutely certain they are genuine and if you are using Outlook Express make sure the preview pane is switched off.
