Oops got reading threads and lost myself!

Maggie you are so right, it is briliant to read their thoughts at the time, and to know the places they visited.
I haven't scanned mine... So must get monty to to that for me,both sides.
I do wish they didn't have the habit of turning cards sideways to cram more in,can't flipping read some of it! lol
Most in pencil too ,so not wearing well.
As for who they visited,yes I now know lots of their cousins were very close and dear to them.
They can tell us soooo much.

I don't care about the monetary value,Tricia - mum only scanned the pictures - it was the way they squeezed as much information onto the back of the card that intrigued me - and it was a record of where they had been and when, and who they were visiting.

I'm the youngest of 4!! She had her first at the 'They say I can't - so I will' age of 19 the second 11 months later - then a respectable 2 years before my sister.

Kay, whoever took them knew their monetary worth - they were from the 1920's - 1960's - and I spent ages drying them out so they were in pristine condition - they had got damp from condensation.

Hi Errol -
They suggested the treatment in Portugal - replacing both valves for the equivalent of £15000.
Mum was born with the conditon, and has survived 77 years when she shouldn't have lived beyond 9...or if she did, she should never have children!!
She came over here to get a second opinion - there's always the problem with private medicine - do you need the treatment or do they want the money.
The consultant over here said just one valve had to be replaced and he wanted to operate on her - he'd never met someone who had lived as long as her with a problem that is now operated on when the person is a child!
Not being one to look a gift horse in the mouth, she stayed with my sister for 6 months to get residency - this also meant she could get the 'fantastic' increases in pension she has missed out on - and they operated 3 months later.
As it turned out, they didn't actually need to replace either valve - they lasered one and sewed up the other. Had she had the operation in Portugal, she would be looking at a maximum lifespan of 10 years, as they would have used tissue valves - and she would need another operation in 10 years time - when she would be 87- and there's always the question of whether or not they would operate on an 87 year old.
Not having any valves replaced also means she will eventually not have to take so many drugs, and her quality of life will be better.

If it was sometime ago,,and they were stolen they will be long sold on by now,,,,,,,,have a look on ebay under --seaside postcards,----someone knew thier worth or thought they did,,,,,,,,,,not all seaside ones have a deal of value,,,,,anything recent 1960/1970+ have no value at all,,,,,,,,,what a shame,,,,

Maggie, I didn't mean you actually. I was more concerned about other people pointing fingers when they know nothing about the case. I was particularly incensed by the comment about stealing kids.

I'm glad your mum is ok. What happened there - could they not give the treatment in Portugal? At least we have a bloomin' fine health service here, eh?

Hi Lindy, if you have the right dish and card you can recieve Sky, even here in Madeira. We need a 1.8m dish, but should be slightly smaller on the mainland. We also receive BBC World and BBC Prime on Cabo, but programmes aren't that up to date. But I agree the locals wouldn't be interested in watching Antiques Roadshow.

I suppose it does seem like I am pointing fingers - but for the life of us we can't think who would have had the time or interest to go through copious albums!!
If she is on here and says it wasn't her or her family, so be it, I would apologise. I haven't mentioned any names apart from Elena, who we both regard as innocent.

Mum last looked at the album before she came over here for her op - she was getting everything sorted, preparing for 'the worst'.
Since then, no-one has been in the house alone, as her husband was there, until he came over to look after mum following the operation.

Mum's doing well thank you, Errol. the only problem she has is, because of the drugs, she isn't allowed out in the sun without covering herself in a high factor sun screen!! Oh, and not being able to pour concrete and lay flag stones any more LOL

Sorry Maggie, I didnt realise there were several albums and they were all photo albums rather than just postcard albums. It certainly does look as if it was somebody who had plenty of time to look through them.

When was the last time your Mum had a look at the album..

We don't have "antique roadshows over here" so I doubt that a local would be interested.

As for "Julie Ann" I would dearly like to give her a "mouthful" but shan't spoil your thread...

Is this a case of guilty until proved innocent?

Before site members point fingers and call people scum they should make sure they have the correct facts. Also, these people that fingers are being pointed at may even use this site and, if innocent, would have a pretty darn good case!
Julie Ann's comment about Portugese stealing kids is slightly puzzling too and I hope she meant it as some sort of joke!
If that is not a joke, Julie Ann, then I hope you retract your remark and apologise to the Portugese who may be deeply offended by such a remark.

Whoever did this is scum and this must be so upsetting for your mum but people should be careful of pointing fingers with a total lack of evidence.

Did think of that - but would they really have time to take every album (and there are lots!!) down from the bookcase and search them?
As far as they were concerned they just contained family photographs - and it seems unlikely they would be interested in mugshots of strangers!

There's also a loo and kitchenette thingy in a utility room by the pool - so no need for the painters to come inside.

Would the painters have gone inside to use the toilet, or have a cuppa? The friends could have been out of the room at the time, so dont be too hasty judging them.
