I had steroids for three days with each of my last 4 chemo's, they gave me loads of energy..so I think I burnt off any weight gain, cos I still only weigh-in at 7 stone something!

It's true, as Shirley says, that chemo dosage is tailored to your height/weight ratio, but I don't think being a bigger person makes it more effective. I hope not anyway!

My son is on steroids almost permanently as he has Crohn's disease, and they have made him very "puffy", I hate it as he doesn't look the same as he did. But that is after taking them long-term.

I wouldn't worry about taking them for only a few days, but if you can take the last dose before 2pm then they won't keep you awake half the night!

I was on steroids for a blood disorder and I can honestly say, I was starving all the time. In the hospital, when the menu came round asking you to choose the next days food, I was always asking for extras, and the gr8 chef there, always obliged.

Jan do you mean that you are on them..... 5mgs a day? Or 5Mg tablets a day? (the little red ones?)

If yo are on them for a week.... do not worry, you may feel the need to eat a bit more, bit it is only for a week to two weeks.
Also there will be no long term side effects.

the side effects don't show for a short time like that.

When you have to have them long term..... now THAT is different.
Good luck on them. Why did he/she give you them? A chest infection?

Yes, we dont take them but one of our animals does (for life) and whilst the appetite steadies out eventually - if we need to up the dose her hunger increases - but thats good as when she is poorly she goes off her food.
