Hi Errol

I am wondering of you are refering to the thread i posted Tuesday as the news was comming out?

As you may notice the heading and original news articles are from then.

The news over the last few days has changed the information supplied increasing the numbers involved.

However I have not changed the thread as it would, in my opinion, have looked disjointed.

Just came on the ITV news that according to the emails a SENIOR DIRECTOR was involed in this fiasco.

So who should be sacked now??

It won't be this director because he will say *I delegated the job of sending them to******

Yes he was Errol - very intelligent and very dilligent - couldn't stand the attitude of his co-workers who, amongst other things referred to their clients as 'scum'.

Teresa, I haven't read all the thread, but you're right on Page 1 about the 20-something; it wasn't his fault. I work for the place, and there's a lot of higher management that leave it to the lower grades to do things that really, is not the juniors' responsibility.
I won't be drawn into a discussion about this lol, but wanted to say that bit.

Was he full time employed?

My nephew used to work for the Benefit's agency.
He is a very gentle man and the treatment he received from some of the staff was awful.
While he was working for them, his pay was so low, he was drawing benefits himself!!!
Not too good for morale.

Quite right Maggie, that is just taking it too far, and yes I agree they are arrogant (as an organisation).

I will add I know a couple of individuals who work for the benefits agency and they are far from arrogant in themselves. Its the organisation as a whole that tends to be overbearing. (see my gripes on signing on every fortnight)

You do realise this is the reason England lost - the players had their minds on whether they would be able to afford a decent meal if they lost their child benefit.

Just wish they'd admit they make mistakes

Maggie I agree - government departments are totally fallible but seem to be untouchable because of their arrogance.

Maggie, that is because even though they may be Government departments, they are still run by humans, not robots.

Even top surgeons make mistakes, its what makes us human.

That and Errols grumpiness lol

I actually read somewhere that the password was included in the package.

I feel that the 20 something year old will be made a scapegoat, I am sure that nobody in these organisations who is a junior clerk will have done this without the knowledge of their boss. I always understood that junior staff would have the protection of their boss. That is why bosses are paid more than junior staff.

It is a bit worrying to read that the staff employed don't even have to have any GCSEs or other qualifications other than passing a simple written test and arithmetic test and apparently many of them are unable to use decimals or fractions. When the benefits agency was Civil service the staff would have been more highly qualified. (not that that would have made them more intelligent necessarily but they might have had enough about them to query the safety of putting sensitive material in the post.)

Yeah I know Errol and that was out of order.

I do see what you mean about sites like this, where personal details are published...and easily accessible to any hacker wishing to do so.

What is really annoying Errol is this department, and other Government Departments, eg the CSA and Child Tax people insist they are always right, if they say you didn't phone as they log every call or sent a letter, then you didn't - even if you sent it recorded delivery!!
And because they allegedly didn't receive the call or letter they overpaid you, and you can then spend the next 5 years in total poverty paying it back!!

This proves these departments aren't as efficient as they claim to be but you the public are penalised.
They may say they log every call - but they're only human. This has proved to everyone, not just those of us who have dealt with these departments, that they are fallible and should perhaps double check their own records before declaring someone a liar!!

This morning an ex employee said there were sacks of mail left untouched in the corner for months!!
